Re: I'm probably not completely on my own...

schools often teach stuff thats wrong, and you cant even argue with them about it, often the stuff in the books is out of date before it even goes to print.

I remember learning loads of wrong stuff, knowing it was wrong, but having to learn it anyway because if it came up on the test i would have to answer it wrong (but right according to the book)

Why diss Jamie Oliver? He's done a *****load for helping youngsters with no direction offering them a new direction in cooking and cuisine. He also grafts his arse off, much for not his own benefit. Blimey some people are so friggin' ignorant.

Chill out

Graft? Are you kidding me? His producers and everything do all the work, he's only gotta show his face and teach people how to cook, and he gets paid a lot, so yes, it IS for his own benefit.

You are *****ing joking me? His 'producers' do alot of groundwork admittedly, but as regards to what you've said about only 'showing his face' ... You obviously are well naive to the entertainment industry....especially on the cooking side of it. DON'T MAKE COMMENTS ABOUT SOMETHING YOU KNOW JACK ALL ABOUT ELFEN !!

Why are you handling the difference of opinions so immaturely? Let the girl think what she likes, she's allowed. It's a free country. Besides, can you say you know any better? You aren't there with Jamie. You only know what you see on the telly and read about from the Murdoch Media and info-farmed google results.

EDIT: Maybe I'm wrong, maybe you are there with Jamie. Maybe you're his wife? :smileysurprised:

Funny that. I do know Jamie actually....and like Fen said, he is a bit fat himself to be preaching to schoolkids about diets which is something I've always ribbed him about ! Regardless, he is one of the hardest grafters that I've met, and his success has been through all his own doing - unlike most 'celebrities' these days that are nothing more than a talentless muppet infront of a money driven management team. I applaud the bloke....one of the few people that actually deserve to be where they are.

I think Jamie Oliver does well, he's using his talents as a chef to try and promote a good message not just in this country but in others.

As for just showing his face, you forget he also owns resteraunts and I've eaten in one of them and have to say it's great food. I'd easily choose to watch Jamie Oliver over Gording t**tting Ramsey.

But yeah it does annoy me to see families that way, I'm not the slimmest guy around but I try to eat well and stay in shape. We don't eat the perfect food in my family but we usually have 3 proper meals a day, nothing wrong with a little snack every so often.

Tonight we had Jamaican pork curry and rice, very nice.

Spag Bol can be one of the tastiest, AND HEALTHIEST home cooked meals ever. I use M&S extra lean mince, and no oil whatsoever. I blanche my onions (rather than frying) in vegetable stock for half an hour reducing enough so that I can add my mince afterwards. When I'm on a health kick, I'll have it once a week. Lurvely ! :smileyhappy:

Re: I'm probably not completely on my own...

You should use that Quorn mince stuff. You'd be surprised how great it tastes, and it's not so gritty and heavy in the mouth, or even try beanfeast.

Quorn chicken pieces are pretty nice as well, obviously a lot softer than the real thing, but tastes about the same providing you actually flavour it.

I wouldn't recommend those fake meat slices though and that fake bacon, and not the fake sausages either. URGH!

Re: I'm probably not completely on my own...

To be honest, I think people are missing something here complaining about takeaway food and stuff.

Just looking at a few of the takeaway menus pinned on my bedroom wall (fully spread out), let's have a look at some of the options....

Evidence 1:

Here we see... YES! Spaghetti Bolognese, which is apparently " the tastiest, AND HEALTHIEST home cooked meal ever". So, actually takeaways are healthier than cooking your own food.

Also, on the same page, we see many other pasta dishes which we all know are very healthy. As well as a number of "specialities" and "English dishes" which are like home cooked food but nicer and therefore probably healthier.

Furthermore, we see some "Ladies specials" and we all know that ladies want to be healthier, so this is automatically good for you.

Evidence 2:

Here we see further evidence against the myth spread by busibodies that takeaway food is unhealthy. First, may I bring your attention to the fantastic variety of omelettles which are obviously really healthy. Some of them even have plenty of healthy protein on them, such as meats like chicken, donner and spanish.

Also, there are a number of Kids meals, which means that kids eat like half the amount in a normal portion. This means that there are the half the calories, fats etc... than in a normal portion. I don't think many standard home cooked meals have half the calories and fat of a normal portion.

Evidence 3:

I can't see how you would need any more convincing about how much better takeaways are, but here it is. "Traditional dishes" means good, and they have been passed down and have therefore survived evolution, because if they were bad for you, then people would have died and not passed them on. Also, the pictures look nice, better than anything someone could cook at home.

Also, most of these traditional dishes are served with chips, so you get even more. Even though you are only ordering something like Chilli Con Carne (healthy), you also get chips without actually adding to the unhealthiness of the meal. Whereas if you cooked it at home, but added chips, then that would make it more unhealthy.

Now that we have established that takeaway food is good for you, let us have a look at 'homecooked food'.

Evidence 4:

When you think of homemade food, you probably think of things like steak pies. We all know that pastry is really bad for you, so already we have seen that homemade food is mainly bad for you. Also, these portions look really big, so it means that you eat a lot of food and get really unhealthy. Compare this to takeaways, when sometimes you are disappointed with the portion size because it is too small, obviously takeaway wins again.

Evidence 5:

Deserts obviously are really bad for you, especially cakes. When you think of homemade food, you often think of deserts, such as cakes. When there is a cake, you tend to eat a lot. So homemade food is really, really bad for you. Cakes are the most obvious example, but there are loads of other deserts that are bad for you which can be cooked at home, just off the top of my head: Trifle, sticky toffee pudding, apple crumble, chocolate pudding, chocolate brownie pudding, gooey chocolate pudding, special chocolate pudding, chocolate.

Compare this to takeaways, which usually have a really rubbish selection of deserts. If you are lucky they might do a banana fritter, and nobody has ever bought one from a takeaway, so it must be really healthy is nobody has deserts. Also, if for some reason you did order a desert, it would probably be cold and horrible by the time you got around to it, or grease would have leaked on to it, so you wouldn't eat it anyway.

Evidence 6:

Chefs are generally annoying douchebags. So, if you start cooking, evidence points to you becoming an annoying douchebag. Anthony Worral Thompson, Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay, Heston Bloomenthal, the one with the curly hair who thinks he is better than everybody else etc... all annoying douchebags.

People generally don't like annoying douchebags, so it seems a good idea not to start cooking. It is probably something to do with the smug self satisfaction gained having cooked a meal, and then feeling better than other people who do not cook their own food.

Conclusion

Takeaway food is both healthy, convenient and conducive to a tolerable society. Comparatively, homecooked food is unhealthy, takes ages and makes people annoying douchebags. Therefore, Takeaway food is better.

I like that 30 minute meal show he does rather than the lets get everyone healthy shows.

The end of the day its not his fault people are over weight, a lot of the time its not even the food, its a combination of sitting around and the food.

Id like to see in a food/exercise show, where they show you food good for when youre sitting around inactive, food for when youre about to go out and do something walk/run/cycle, and food for helping you recover and food for treat days. It would probably be rubbish tho

A straight forward show wouldn't work. They have to add **** and mumbo jumbo for it to work on TV.

"Eat less, exercise more" doesn't really fill an hour slot.
