Re: I'm thinking of quitting my job and moving to Australia

So, I started this thread on the 31st October 2009, which is roughly 2 and a half years ago!

tbh the response wasnt great and the idea seemed a bit far fetched to some at the time, and some discouraged me in pursuing this!

I am not overly qualified but the qualifications I do have, have gotten in to Australia and as from the 20th April I became a permanent resident which means I can stay here FOREVER!

It's kinda weird having this thread to read back through and see my feelings at different times!

I love Australia, I live in Cairns, North Queensland, I meet new people all the time, right now I live with one Aussie, 3 Japanese and 2 Korean, I will be travelling down the East Coast in August!

Basically, if you don't like something, change something... and travel. the greatest thing I have ever done!

Re: I'm thinking of quitting my job and moving to Australia

[ Edited ]

Which part are you moving to?

Also, have you been here before, do you know anyone, have you get any jobs lined up? Have you researched visas?

Basically how much have you thought about and looked into it?

If you do you research and are realistic with your aspirations it can be a great idea, if you have no friends/family, no qualifications (bear in mind that UK qualifications don't always translate) and no money then it will likely suck for you.

You will need a fair block of cash for visas and flights let alone once you're here and you need food and rent and car etc before you get work and what have you. And the aussie government won't give you dole (well its hard to get it if you are a citizen) at all if you are not a citizen.

Plus it will be super difficult if you don't know anyone. Basically it's the same as moving anywhere new.

It is not a magic choice and everything will be rosy, it is hard work and expensive and you have to have your head screwed on right. Just think, why would Australia want you if you have nothing to offer.

Anyway, good luck.

* EDIT Just realised I responded to this thread forever ago. Didn't realise it was so old so I just went on a rant. HAHA Glad it worked out for you man.

Also, just interested did the GF ever come here?

The girlfriend went straight to Oz, I went travelling for six months through asia and New Zealand and then to Oz, she is still here and is living in Sydney! I am in Cairns.

It's strange how things work out, we are still friends and splitting up turned out to be a blessing in disguise!

where do you live?

Perth, moved out here about 5 years ago now from the New Forrest.

It's pretty awesome tbh. Imo much better than the UK.

Its not hard to be better than britain, even Jeremy Clarkson a guy who makes a career out of pretending to be staunchly pro british speaks fluent french and described returning tot he UK like going into a public toilet.
