I've quit my 8 year addiction

[ Edited ]

I've quite my 8 year long addiction and I feel proud. I was completely addicted to World Of Warcraft, and I'm not even joking, I seriously had problems, I've lost all to most of my friends, I use to be super chubby, I lost confidence and got social anxiety, developed speech problems and many more things. But :smileytongue:.. The one thing that made me stop my addiction was this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTPAOWa83S4

No way will I play a game with cute fluffy panda's doing dances like this, I feel like an complete child, time to change my life around I think :] I need cookies for managing to stop my subscription. ^. ^ Such an achievement!

I played this game, every year for 8 years, 10 hours a day in one sitting, sometimes I'd stay up for a full 24 hours on weekends loosing all great sleep. Now that I look over the time I've spent, and the things I've lost, I feel like an idiot, 8 great years of my life spent inside my one room, I should probably seek medical help :smileyfrustrated:?

If you just go and replace your addiction, this new thing will just be your new addiction.

You need to seek medical help, yes.

Practice distractions. Whenever you feel the need to go and play your addiction, go and do something else. Phone a friend, do a wordsearch, read a book, take a walk, write a blog entry, etc.

Addiction is addiction. Replacing it with another thing does not remove the underlying problem that causes the addiction.
I don't blame you for leaving WoW, though. That new Panda update which is basically Kung Fu Panda being wrapped into WoW was nothing short of an April Fool's Joke gone wrong.

I was thinking that maybe getting a pet would help quite a bit, one that takes more looking after, not like a dog or anything, but something a bit more exotic like a Bearded Dragon Lizard. Its not the first time I've tried to quit, the game is always on my mind and that's not really natural. But anything can be accomplished, and so this time I've taken measures, such as request my Credit Card company to block payments to Blizzard. Waiting for word back on that one, but I think they;ll do it.

Thank you for the suggestions, I'd like to try a vlog actually. ^- ^ But I could get back into Manga, that's kind of like a book *shrug* =D

Humm, so do you guys think that something is Psychologically wrong, and that I'm addicted to gaming in general? Sorry I'm confused =(

Nothing is wrong with you, addictions are common. If smokers had something wrong with them for their addiction, imagine how much that would cost on the NHS? xD

It's just, it's very hard to get over an additiction by yourself. You need help and support.

Personally, I wouldn't get something like an exotic pet. They need a LOT of the right treatment. They're expensive to keep too, plus you can't really play with them or anything, and they're so damn boring ><

Get a dog. You can play with him/her all the time, have cuddles etc. and it's something that will get you motivated to get out the house and walk :smileyhappy:
If you want one that's loyal and loving, go with a labrador or a retriever. We've had 2 springers in the past, and they were such nuts dogs, it was hard to keep them under control.
We now have a labrador and she's just so great. She's never once growled at anyone, or barked at someone in a negative way, only barked for attention when she wants to play :smileytongue:
They are very easy to puppy train too. She was very easy to teach to go to the toilet outside.

Yeah, go for the manga, and I'll watch your vlogs and be your first subscriber if you like :smileytongue:

Ahhh you're welcome. Bless ya xD

I promise you'll love having a dog if you decide to get one. I would suggest getting a puppy if you can, so that you can train them to be yours.
As much as I support getting rescue dogs, you just don't know their history, especially if they've had a traumatic experience with children or something, as you know what kids are like with dogs. Get a bit too OTT when petting dogs xD

Re: I've quit my 8 year addiction

Yeah if you've never had dogs before go with one that is yours from infancy and not a rescue dog. Rescue dogs come from various backgrounds and have different experience and some can only cope with specific conditions. It wouldn't be fair on either of you should you make a wrong pick.

Wasn't it you that rescued a dog once? Or am I thinking of someone else?
