One of the main reasons I have withheld buying peripherals and what not for my iPhone and iPad. It was bound to happen. New standards come in every so often, they allow new progresses to be made etc so I don't see what the whole big fuss is about.

I think Lord Ross nailed it really and plus, as already mentioned, an adapter will probably be released. In fact, I would probably bet my life on it that an adapter would be released as Apple seem very keen on that as of late and plus, it works well with the companies who have made hardware to work with their phones etc.

one does not just make an adapter for apple products.

The 30 pin and other display connectors were going to become obsolete sooner or later. They've been going a fairly long time. Thunderbolt and this 19 pin are likely to become Apple's main standard soon, considering even their handheld devices are now or soon will be pushing above 1080p.

Was the old connection that bad it couldnt handle 1080p?

Apples connection was never standard, they said in 2009 they would move to a standard connection micro usb but never did.

Apple are a design company not a high tech innovation company, they changed the port for astethic purposes. 

This isnt really an issue for people who buy iPhones, the iPhone 5 will be a different size tot he 4s so people will have to buy all new docks anyway, otherwise their device would look ugly in a dock not designed for it.

People who bought iPhones to look cool are the only ones who will be disapointed, and apple wont care about them, cause they will still want to look cool.

But hey, retina display, so many pixels.

I think the change is as you say for aesthetics but there's probably a more efficient transfer of data in the new connector. I'll check it out.

EDIT: Looks like some of the 30 pins on the old connector were reserved for more obsolete tech like firewire, s-video etc.

Lots of people are complaining about this only because it's apple. I'm sure Nokia did something like this (I think it was Nokia or someone else) but you don't see people complaining about that now. Customers want apple to revolutionise the iPhone but complain when part of the revolution means smaller Pin connecter
