I still can't believe they're talking about changing the name of a Marathon to a Snikers bar! Really, that just sounds silly and will never catch on.

after 10 years or so, the 30 pin connector is showing its age now.... Time to move on... 

This is only news because its Apple! Nokia, Samsung etc changing to Micro USB was a small blip on the radar in comparison!  

Lets face it before Apple there were so many connectors that it was a nightmare! At least Apple helped calm all that down... 

Now there are basically two standards, apples 30 pin and Micro USB...

If this is true (I believe it will happen) then Apple will certainly release an £20 adaptor  

The thing that worries me as a auction site seller is the fact that they want to take full control of the cable market by inserting a chip in the connector sot hat only apple cables work, and not 3rd party.

It was only a blip for Nokia and Samsung, because they moved away from proprietary connections to standard universal connections

Apple had nothing to do with other companies adopting Micro USB. It was adopted by samsung and others so there could be a universal standard. Apple initially agreed to move to Micro USB, and was supposed to if they changed the port.

The reason its bigger news than normal is because they didnt chose a standard connection, you will have to buy the connectors from them, and people who like their stuff to look seamless will have to upgrade hubs and docks. 

If you were a car maker and the ipod ports in all your cars were now redundant, would you bother upgrading newer models to the new apple port or would you chose the standard micro usb that comes on the better selling phones?
