Impressive, 8.2 quadrillion calculations per second, question is though, can it run Crysis 2?

Wonder how many power plants it takes to power it?

Says in there that it uses enough energy to power nearly 10,000 homes

I noticed a typo in the title - "Japanese supercomputer 'K' was world's fastest".

Re: Japanese supercomputer 'K' is world's fastest

This is couple of days old.

But to answer the question about electricity consumption, Japan is broken into 50hz and 60hz supply on each half of the island. Meaning power generated in one section needs to be converted to be used in the other section and there are only a couple of conversion stations.

The side this super computer is on, does not use the same as the side the tsunami hit. The power it uses can not readily be used by those needing it in the tsunami, so its not "wasting" power that could somehow be used to help japan.

Yes, very power hungry... however it is also very efficient when compared to home computers. I don't know the how many PCs would be needed to provide equivalent processing power and what equipment they would need to even get 1/100th of the transfer speeds, but I remember reading about how little energy per clock cycle super computers use.
