My laptop has crap battery life so I often just keep the charge cable plugged in while im using it :smileyindifferent:

I would like a desktop PC for when I get my own place though, I have my eye on an Alienware one at the moment.

Get a mac :smileyhappy:

I nearly bought one, the 24" iMac I think it was, but at the time a laptop seemed more practical for me.

Re: Laptop vs. Desktop PC

Its horses for courses mate, you can,t take your desktop upstairs to bed with you to watch 4 on demand,so its down to you to work out wether you wanna be portable(surf the web in the garden,bedroom,e.t.c or do you want to sit infront of a desktop with a luxurious leather seat and massive hd screen the choice is yours,me i got both,my Acer wifi laptop is cool but as previously mentioned your kinda limited with battery life about 3 hrs in my case.

That might be why it's crap.  To give it the best possible battery life you should regularly charge and discharge the battery.  Vista SP2 is suposed to improve battery life but I haven't really noticed any difference since installing it yesterday.

Don't buy Alienware, they're horribly overpriced.

Re: Laptop vs. Desktop PC

i used to like laptops but the specs are not good enough. When i got my first desktop, it was alot faster then any laptop i had, plus you can upgrade them and get a bigger screen to display.
I Play PC games on steam now ...

Mine plugs into my telly via HDMI port :smileyvery-happy:

And for me, laptop any day

There not as powerfull as PC, but the fact that I can pick it up and go into anyroom in my house, or take it out else wins :smileyvery-happy:

And my laptop plays most games in high specs

I fully charged the battery when I first got the laptop and I will normally let it completely run out before charging it again.

But I have been using the laptop more regularly in the past few months, often running quite a few applications as once (includinh listening to music on iTunes), thus using up a lot of the battery. If I unplug the cable the battery gets drained ever so quickly, and I just find it frustrating so I tend to just leave it connected.

I'm in the market for a new laptop now anyway, the one I have just doesn't have enough memory, and I want one with a better graphics card too.

@ James, I havent started to seriously look into the Alienware one, but I would only think about getting the basic spec model. Couldn't afford anything more than that really.
