Totally agree and as earlier poster said, he didnt actually call them scum, just said that many people would consider them scum, I for one do

How do you know he/she doesn't exist?

I know because science and common sense dictate that the being does not exist. God is a fictional character made up by humans to explain what they didn't know how to explain way back when. It's also a useful tool to control the masses.
