Ditto. I think this is a great idea.

You are right lorries are much worse. There's a 2-3 mile strip of dual carriageway between a roundabout and my place of work and I've been stuck behind two parallel lorries for the entire stretch more than once.

That's where you're wrong Project.

On the motorways there are no such things as 'Slow', 'Medium' and 'Fast' lanes.
There is a 'Driving' Lane and two 'Overtaking' lanes.

The speed limit on any lane on the motorway is 70mph

Granted they are not called that, but that is effectively what they are. Traffic flow can be optimised by taking a more literal understanding behind the naming of slow lane and fast lanes. With current driving trends people treat the inner lines as a driving lane, as do I know that I have a car that can comfortably drive along at the 70MPH limit without burning away the fuel like it is free of charge.

If the rules of motorway were amended there may not be a need for an increase in the speed limit, because as the other poster pointed out... lorries cause frustration, although that frustration is because they slow down the flow of traffic as they spend anything up to 2 minutes trying to overtake another lorry.

PS. I never said medium lane, there is no such thing as a medium lane! :smileywink::smileytongue::smileyvery-happy:

Re: Motorway's to increase speed limit to 80MPH?

It's not effectively what they are. They all have the same speed limit, so there is no You must not travel over 60 in the left hand lane. I could quite happily zip down the middle lane at 60 mph, and have done before.

I know there is no popular myth medium lane. It's just people probably think "Left hand lane is slow lane, right hand lane is fast lane, so middle lane must be medium lane"

Now you are being pedantic. Even police officers in fully marked patrol cars use the inner lanes to "drive" on as opposed to just purely "overtake" others. And if you zipped down the middle lane at 60 mph then you are partly responsible for hindering traffic flow. At 60mph it is in everybody else's interest that you get over to the outer lane which is more suited to slower driving as the lanes to your right are there for others who drive faster than you, and thus, keep the flow of traffic going nicely.

Re: Motorway's to increase speed limit to 80MPH?

So you're telling me. If I'm riding for the conditions eg 60 mph in the rain, and overtaking that I should crash just to let some prat shoot past at 100 mph?

I can't see where you came to that conclusion. You need to re-read all of page 6 and 7.

You told me I was hindering traffic doing 60 in the middle lane, when you never asked the circumstances.

Wut? That is just stupid. And you still haven't explained where the 100mph remark came from.

Re: Motorway's to increase speed limit to 80MPH?

The 100mph was a figure I plucked out of the air, because that's what speed a lot of people seem to think is acceptable on the motorway, and if you're not going that speed the attitude is 'GET OUT OF MY WAY'
