Near death experiences

[ Edited ]

Have any of you had them?

I am sure I might have been close last night. I was taking a lady friend to see some family in Mid Wales (Elan Village - lovely place as well) and on the way back I was part of a road train on a B-Road.

So following the two cars in front of me, with some behind, we are all happily driving along if not a bit too quickly for a road train. The guy in front was doing 60MPH for the most part so he must have been local to the area.

Anyways, we are on a uphill straight that I would guess was about half a kilometer in length. The guy in front was doing his 60mph, so the rest of us were following his lead. Right after the brow of this hill there is a left turn, and it was really sharp... for the first car to approach at 60mph is reckless!!! All I saw was railings! Just railings! Those railing then started moving to the right at an incredible speed.

I just clicked in to automatic mode because I have no idea how managed to get around the corner, I thought that was it. Game Over, that sort of thing.

Anyway, the second car in the makeshift envoy seemed to have bugged out and gone home, figuratively speaking ofcourse. He/she pulled his/her BMW over to the side of the road and came to a stop in front of me, and I can tell you know I wanted to do the same! I looked behind me and the cars following were nowhere to be found!

I should have stopped there and then really, I had no idea what might have happened behind us. Checked the news this morning, no reports of any crashed in that area thank fully. The car in front just sped off like a lunatic. I have to accept some blame as well as you are not supposed to form a road train per se, but 99.9% of the time you have a sensible driver in the front to lead everyone else. This was probably the first instance where I was in a road train with a bleeding pyscho leading the way!

(Should have said, my passenger who has done this journey her fair share of the time told me there is a 300ft cliff face over the railings. Nice of her to warn me as well... PLUS SHE HAD MY SAT NAV TO LOOK AT WHICH WAS ON AT THE TIME!!!!!)

I have no doubt at all, if I hadn't made that instinctive move to turn left immediately after getting to the top of the hill I would not be here right now. We are talking about a possible 60mph head on collision with railings, which although designed to absorb the impact.... we are still talking about a lot of speed, and what if those railings did not hold?!

My passenger was bipping at me for about two minutes afterwards lol... she was not impressed as you can imagine. Neither was I but I think that was irrelevent considering I was partly to blame, well technically mostly to blame... or all to blame, either way she gave me a bollocking while I was trying very hard to squeeze the turtle's head back into the shell! I didn't want to remind her that she should have told me about the corner or should have been watching the Sat Nav, I just wanted to get home and curl up

So, any of you been in a precarious moment that you thankfully came away from?

Re: Near death experiences

Sounds like a potential accident which was averted, not an NDE.

NDE's are more to do with things like feeling like you are floating, experiencing God, complete calm, exiting your body etc... Mainly used by people to covert to, or reinforce their belief in God. Usually nonsense, as they are mainly experienced by people after accidents or something, so when they are in a hospital, full of drugs, on an operation table with lights in their face etc... they become disorientated and convinces themselves that they are dead.

Anyway, on your incident, sounds scary :smileytongue:

I am pretty sure something might have exited my body at that point.

Re: Near death experiences

I had live rounds fired at me, i cant really talk about it, but time slowed down as my sub consious processed the information at a faster rate than I can think, thats kind of a cool feeling.

On the roads I have nearly hit the back of people as they brake late to turn on roads I dont know, Why cant they slow down, indicate, and turn like normal people.

When i was a learner i somehow didnt see a roundabout and even tho it was busy, drove straight through it with everyone beeping, that was a crazy moment...

But now I have hundreds of thousands of miles under my belt, and even worked driving, I rarely follow someone elses lead, i will match their driving style to a limit and after that let them drive off, I just dont trust other people on the road, Ive seen so many people do so many crazy things that I look after myself and let them do as they like.

Re: Near death experiences

I can guarantee that I will be towing that line, Fenian. Not sure if I could put myself in that position I was in last night, I would rather take my own chances and do it at 40mph from now on. More to the point, I know I couldn't put her in that position again neither. She was shaken to say the least, and I was not aware that humans could reach such a high level of sonic volume. Just glad she was still talking to me before we got home.

Re: Near death experiences

Well I do speed sometimes, But its always on my terms when I do..

I nearly always get there just as quick as everyone else lots of times quicker cause i have quick reactions when the light turns green..

The thing I am most proud of, is everyone says they feel really safe when they are being driven by me, and feel really comfortable. Know they will get home quick as possible and safe.

Re: Near death experiences

On my motorbike test I was doing 60 in a 60 zone. I didn't know there was a little humpback bridge in the middle of the zone. Took the bridge at 60 was about half a foot from the middle of the white line and about 1 foot away from a lorry coming the other way.

Re: Near death experiences

My neighbour murdered his wife in their house next door to ours. I was pretty close to that death.
