OK, so they've found the God Particle, does that now mean we eventually get transporter technology?

[ Edited ]

Apparently the Higgs Bosun particle, is supposed to be the glue holding matter together.

Well, if they've found the 'glue', surely as a frame of reference they could use it as a variable to find a way to deal with that damn Heisenburg & his annoying Uncertainty Principal!

Trust a german to put obstacles in the way of perfectly good theoretical physics. Basil was right about 'em, they've got absolutely no sense of humour!

Get a few of the cleverest kiddies, lock 'em in a room with a super computer & tell them they can't come out until they've worked out a new formula using the extra variable of the 'glue' to plot a particle's position in time & space in relation to its momentum.

I get very tired these days of driving for any length of time & if they could perfect the distintegration/reintegration process, I'm quite sure I could be pursaded to trade the car in for a transporter pad!

STEAMBOAT's says she's happy about my being distintegrated, but isn't too fussed about the reintegration part!

I see nothing wrong with it you're the one mistitling the thing.

The term 'god particle' makes little to no sense - it's just a title the media have given it to show how important the work being done on it is.

Your whole glue thing doesn't make sense either - that's done by gluons and binding energy - not by higgs bosons, which are believed to give mass.

I'm with astro and WJB1, I wish people would stop calling in the god particle.

I saw title, OP and last poster and thought there would be more ownage :smileysad:

Having more understanding of physics doesn't mean you can break it's laws.

It's confirmed some theories so we now know there is such a thing and what it's energy is, not given the ability to build a transporter or fix the uncertainty principle.

To "see" the higgs boson you have to smash the heck out of other particles in a particle accelerator, it's not like they just found it in a shoe box so can now use it for other stuff.

Surely now they've definitely found the bloody thing they can manipulate it in someway!

As for not being able to make a transporter & can't brake physics laws & all that 'defeatest' crap errrrm......

We shouldn't be able to fly through the air, but I believe a pair of gentlemen called the Wright brothers who wern't even physists had a problem with that attitude at the beginning of the 20th Century & of course now Mr. Branson & co are hopefully going to be taking punters on nice little'weightless' excursions round the globe by the end of this year here at the beginning of the 21st Century http://www.virgingalactic.com/ & I believe there's also something called scramjet technology, where they've achieved maximum speeds through the atmosphere of Mach 10 would you believe http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/05/15/hydrocarbon_scramjet_test

I thought it was nicknamed 'Gods particle' because it didn't exist/couldn't be found.
