I don't think (well, know if) the source was posted here but this: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=31268454&postcount=7 is where the date comes from and while it's probably true, it's far more interesting to become insanely hyped at every possible thing to suggest the sale is going to be sooner.
