Re: PC Gaming thread.

Well despite forking out 20 odd quid for the Shogun bundle on Steam Sale, I have decided to already revert back to my beloved Napoleon Total War.

Shogun itself has some impressive additions to the series and a nice encyclopaedia and AI improvement, it's just that I really have no interest in Japanese history or culture (sorry Sony) and most of the time I have no idea what I'm doing or how to defend or attack certain units.

Not to mention how it seems that everyone on the small tiny island hates each other, makes things very tricky when being attacked from all corners.  At least the English Medieval times I knew the strengths and weaknesses of pretty much most the tribes and their units.

Anyway, I went back to Napoleon Total War for old times sake and it felt goooood to be back :smileyhappy:

Nothing compares to the might of the Royal Navy and the discipline, reload time and accuracy of the British Army and their elite units like the 95th Rifles.

I will give Shogun another chance one day, especially as I haven't even used the trains that were part of the game yet.

For now though, I desire the smell of gunpowder, the sights of thick smoke & blood and the sounds of war fife and drums.

Huzzah!

Oh and as for my other Steam sale games, can't be bothered to play KOTOR, looks too rubbish on my telly and despite Crysis looking amazing, I'm just never in the mood to give it a good go.

Right so i'm in the market for another monitor to use as a dual set-up (even considering a tri-setup).

This is my current monitor (one option is just to pick another one up) : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-158-SA&groupid=17&catid=1425&subcat=

and this was one of the ones I was thinking of (an alternative Samsung):  http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-174-SA

I don't want a 120Hz monitor but i'm just thinking if I want the Dell Ultrasharp monitor.  The reason why i'm against it is because it has a different style, frame and height.  I also wouldn't want the IPS next to my non-IPS one as the differences in colour would be more noticeable.  Not sure what to do though, any suggestions please?

Re: PC Gaming thread.

We've two of the Dell Ultrasharps in the house and they're *****ing great, not that me saying that makes it any easier for you :smileytongue:

If it were me I'd just get something the same rough size so it doesn't look too out of place, one being say IPS and the other TN personally wouldn't bother me.

It really doesn't :smileytongue: If I do go down the Dell route then that rules out a tri-monitor set-up later on.  The one dislike I have about my current monitor is that it has a sort of 'garish' look to it that makes it harder on the eyes to see.  When I compare it to a iMac display screen that just looks 'easier' to look at.

I may now consider a 120Hz monitor though due to me hating screen tearing and it not being a issue on 120Hz monitors.

1. Get 2 more standard monitors

2. Get the Dell Ultrasharp

3. Get the BenQ 120Hz monitor.

Re: PC Gaming thread.

Dawnguard is also now available for Skyrim. I wouldn't recommend buying it at 19.99 though. You would be better off waiting for the eventual GOTY or buying the DLC in the next sale.

Dark Souls PC manual leaked - http://cdn.steampowered.com/Manuals/211420/DARKSOULS_PC_MANUAL_ANZ.pdf

Couple of interesting things:

1) Fully rebindable keyboard controls!

2) Low FPS Feature which disconnects you from online co-op/pvp if your FPS drops below 15 for 30 seconds - some people claiming this is an fps cap, which it is not, just to prevent desyncing I presume.

3) No mention of the improved PvP/co-op matchmaking system, which is odd.

4) They explain vagrant enemies! Yay! This was missing from the console manuals for some reason

5) I didn't actually know about synergy, that is awesome :smileyhappy:

6) Does have some settings seperate from Keybindings as seen on main menu but no mention of what they are.

Re: PC Gaming thread.

I'm pretty sure vagrants and synergy are explained on console, although vagrants aren't explained quite so well...

There's even an icon for syngery and the effect was buffed in the patch.

When you get to the bottom of the really dark level (forget the name: tomb of something?) and you face two skeletal archers and a necromancer just before the open area full of pin wheels, there is a synergy icon there always.

I've also rarely seen them in the wild. Same with vagrants.

Got a problem and wondering if anyone would help. I get crazy screen tearing when I have V-sync off, when I enabled V-sync the screen tearing is totally eliminated but there is very slight input lag when moving the mouse and would like to get rid of that. My monitor is 60Hz.  Adaptive V-Sync still gives me tearing.

In theory, if I lower my FPS to less than 60Hz then I shouldn't get tearing but when I used a Frame Rate Limiter to 55 FPS I still get tearing. Not sure what I should do.

nVidia 6xx series by any chance? Is the lag about every few seconds?  If you have a OSD FPS display enabled, with vsync active, the rate should dip from 60.1 to 58 now and again. It's a known issue that still remains unfixed.  The currently available beta drivers were supposed to correct it but most users report that it doesn't.
