Thanks for the advice, but that sounds way too complicated. If I ended up killing the PC then my family woudn't be too happy.

LOL, see thats the problem ya see, if its your computer then its alrite but i wouldnt go playing with your family computer , cuz if it messes up your in trouble

It's not too much of a problem. It only happens once and then when it all loads back up again you sometimes get a message saying "the system has recovered from a serious error" and then it wont turn off again unless you tell it to.

yeah, thought it might , the steps i said will help me find exaclty what the problem is ya see, if your not that bothered then dont go messing with it

i also have problem

i resently made a pc out of parts from my dads old pc.

i installed xubuntu and it was ok

then i changed just the board and now its being an arse.

its slow and laggy and sometimes crashes.

is there a way to make Ubuntu recognize the new board?

Yeah I always like to leave that as a last resort because I am too lazy to backup all my files and re-install programs etc. but perhaps you're right. It proves to be a simple and straightforward answer. Although I don't have xpress recovery I'll give it a whirl. Ta :Thumbs: You ever try to system restore to the point when this error didn't come up?
