Pc being really laggy

I have an AMD Phenom II X2 Black Edition processor

4 gig ram

HD 4890 xxx gfx card

My pc used to never have any lag but it got pretty laggy with all the programs i had installed. I wiped my pc yesterday and reinstalled windows 7 ultimate  but now my pc barely has anything on it except the esstenials and it is still really laggy on start up and still laggy after it.

Does anybody have any ideas of why this would happen?

Re: Pc being really laggy

could be anything... motherboard bus issues? H/disk slow read/write issues. it is a game of remove some hardware and see what improves it.

Could the fact that its an old hard drive make it laggy?

Re: Pc being really laggy

Yeah it could be what's bottlenecking your system if it's a really old one.

Re: Pc being really laggy

99% of the time it is just Windows.

Rebuild the machine (as in reinstall windows, not change hardware as that is unlikely to be the issue and you'd waste money buying what you don't need)

I agree with the others, its sounds like the hard drive is getting old...
Buy a new one, they are very cheap, and at least y ou will have a nice fresh hard drive if it turns out NOT to be that... However it probably is :smileyhappy:

Re: Pc being really laggy

Uncheck programmes you don't need on start-up as programmes running in the back round from start-up can slow your PC down.

Programmes like itunes etc .
