Post office boss bans customers with poor English

OK so in nottingham where i live (down the road infact) the post office owner has refused to serve people who don't speak good english. With him being asian and serving a majority asian/black community this has caused abit of a stir.

Your thoughts?

Re: Post office boss bans customers with poor English

When i was in france, they wouldnt serve me if i didnt speak good french anywhere really.

On a few occasions I had bar staff walk away from me and shop staff, even tho a fluent french speaker told me, what i said wasnt the best, but it was understandable.

English speaking countries are usually the opposite, we will hum and haw, and try figure out what they mean, and i think thats a cool thing.

I completely agree, when in Rome and all that. If somebody doesnt understand what i am saying i think its perfectly fair to not get me what i want.

Fair enough, i've got nothing against him for doing it. I just wish some of my local shopkeepers spoke english...

Re: Post office boss bans customers with poor English

This just reminded me..

When i was a kid if i went to my local shop to buy some sweets or whatever, the guy who worked there would make me say please and thank you.

If i paid and didnt say thanks, he would throw my money back on the counter, take the stuff back and chase me out of his shop shouting "come back when you learn some manners"..

It made me say please and thank you automatically, cause i needed my sweets :smileysad:

They should do that more, force people to have some manners or chase them out into the street. :smileyhappy:
