See that's what I'm saying, that your "They cancel each other out, because I know they are all equal" is nonsense.
I neither said nor implied that.
Then I have no idea what you were trying to say about the pointlessness in reading research on the subject. And honestly, I've sort of lost interest. (Don't take it personally, I'm just dreadfully tired, and I'm pretty sure that when I wake up tomorrow, I'll feel that we were just going round in circles).

She doesn't look anything like Edward G Robinson.
Have you been drinking?
"Those were the days."
Lyrics
So you're suggesting that Edward G Robinson wrote the lyrics?
I don't think so. It must have been hard enough thinking up all those questions for his TV show without writing songs for Mary Hopkin. He wasn't a machine you know.
You wrote "Ah, those were the days."
Of which they are in the lyrics of that youtube link, in turn reminded me of it.

The claim that for every study reaching one conclusion there's another one reaching a different one is ridiculous, they don't always align but by using the scientific method a robust conclusion can always be reached.
When I originally read an article similar to this one (I think the one I read was more recent), I was genuinely surprised by the results.
My statement that preventing people from downloading illegally would hurt sales was based on the fact that my brother and I probably wouldn't own virtually every episode of 24, Lost, and Fringe between us if we hadn't watched downloaded copies first. I make that roughly £510, I know many people who've done similar things.
And the exact same holds true for me but in a much more drastic fashion. Currently, I own:
Band of Brothers: (€20 [DVD] + €44 [Blu-Ray])
Breaking Bad: (€32)
Mad Men: (€60)
Prison Break: (€66)
Six Feet Under: (€66)
The Sopranos: (€62)
The Wire - Blind Buy: (€95)
As I'm sure most people can agree, that's a lot of box sets. Some shows I watched live on TV (Prison Break, House, 24, Father Ted and Band of Brothers) while two of them I bought based upon the extremely high praise they receive (Arrested Development and The Wire). However, for The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Unit, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Dexter and Fringe, it simply was not possible to watch them on the television. Either through the show not being available, the scheduling being at an unsuitable time or the sporadic scheduling (Fringe is the perfect example, Sky One seemed to show new episodes at random).
By downloading the first season of many of these (if the show already aired) or by downloading it from week to week (if it was currently airing) I was able to decide whether or not I would purchase the complete show up until the most recent DVD/Blu-Ray release. In the case of Breaking Bad, it is peculiar. I've seen the whole show, Season 1 - 4, but only 1 and 2 are currently available in the EU. Once the next seasons are released on DVD, I'll buy them, even if I won't watch the DVD again immediately. When the show's complete, I'll also get the complete series and the Blu-Ray release (if there is one).
I do not want free shows, I absolutely agree with supporting the creators and I like to think that I've done that more than most people, even if I've still watched one season of the show and haven't yet bought it due to monetary constaints (The Shield and Chuck). Valve has stated on many occasions that their belief is that pirating is due in large part to lack of availability, unreasonable/unsuitable pricing or too many restrictions (DRM) and I find myself in complete agreement. When possible, I watch the shows live but in most cases, that's not possible. If made available on legitimate websites and the content was equal to what is available in the US, I would much rather use a legitimate method and then buy the show later. But until that happens, I'll have to make do with digital copies.
(also, sorry if this reads as a stealth "show off my library post", I was just trying to atleast help show that just because you download digital versions, it doesn't mean you won't buy legitimate copies)
