Computers are programmed by humans, and so are also fallable.

Especially wagon wheels.

Think of it like this. You are sat at a train station platform. It's one of those proper seats that you can sit down on. Suddenly out of the corner of your eye you see a car (of whatever type you want, perhaps even a Ford Fiesta) wandering over to your seat and going under it. Now are you think "Blimey that was a cute specimen os the motor variety" or are you thinking "That thing is definitely going to start crashing into my heels any second now".

But what does that have to do with wagon wheels? They wouldn't crash into your heels. And the marshmallow is sooo cute.

You're weird then.

A computer isn't going to be prone to being blinded by the sun, get distracted by pretty scenery or an off-licence, won't tailgate, will be able to have its speed controlled (in the Volvo case by another car, useful for police etc) and will actually follow the rules of the road, perhaps too much. Yes, there may be bugs, but the amount of testing before this stuff is actually released to the masses will have to cover a lot of scenarios. None of these will be how many times to flash the lights before someone gets out of your way.

That's because they are all ways in which humans fail. A computer might decide to do an emergency stop because of the shadow of two crows, or accelerate to top speed because of the sun glinting off a bonnet.

If computer failure was that predictable, they wouldn't fail. But they usually fail because of fringe cases that were never tested or conceived. It can be mitigated to a degree with good design and appropriate safety measures, but there will inevitably be several iterations until it works well.
