Re: Smokers and Obese to be denied treatment?

No they should not be forced.

That would cause more problems than it would solve.

The need to be supported and educated all the way.

So people should be supported to smoke if they chose to? right up until they are getting oxygen deliveries to their house and on thousands of quid worth of medication?

And people should be told what the right thing is, but left to wheeze their way out of life if they want?

I think they should just let them die if they aint even gonna try.

People need to be convinced and supported into the transition fully.

Your solution would make 2011 riots look like a childs playground.

You can't force this onto people you need to educate them and support them through the transistion.

No quick time fix is going to work you need to work at the long term fix

To be fair, the people rioting would be chain smokers and obese people, so they shouldn't be too hard to catch.

I'm not suggesting the majority cause problems, but there are certainly a lot of people who cost a lot of money.

As for your idea about certain lines being drawn - it is easy to say "X person" is obviously taking the *****, and we shouldn't be paying for him/her. But it is much more difficult when it comes to drawing the line, is it over a certain weight, a certain BMI, how closely they resemble a hippo?

What about other lifestyle choices? When somebody breaks their arm for the third time playing rugby, should we force them to stop playing rugby? I suppose driving causes a lot of accidents - we could ban driving.

They should draw the line once the lifestyle becomes a medical risk, being overweight isnt a problem, if you get diabetes from being overweight, then yeah, lose some weight and eat right or dont get treatment for it.

If you drink so what? if you drink and get liver damage, then give the drink up or go off and die on your own money.

People playing sport get hurt, sure, I never have and most people wont, but it happens, they dont miss much work because of it, and it does not require ongoing treatment, so tax money can easily pay for it.

Driving causes accidents but its the same, they dont cost as many lost man hours as strokes, cancer, copd, they dont create a situation where a person requires ongoing medical treatment and medication.

They should draw the line where the lifestyle means the person will need ongoing treatment. Its now time to give up that lifestyle choice or die.

Not everybody who smokes is sick

Not everybody who is not a size 10 is sick

Do you think they would care if they looked silly or not?

It is about doing it the right way and not a dictatorship.

doctors should be struck off for not following their own advice. That would save the NHS a fortune but dobugger all for waiting times etc.

Most of the times I've been to hospitals as a pattient or visitor theres been some right fatties on staff get rid of them from the NHS too :smileyvery-happy:

and stop treating terminal cases too make them buy paracetamol instead

Which is why they are only asking you to give up smoking once it makes you sick.

Which is why they are not asking healthy overweight people to lose weight.

They are only saying if you have a ongoing medical problem, that was caused by smoking or obiesity, then quit it out or dont bother getting treated. Quit smoking and get all the treatment you like.

Like it or not, being overweight and smoking and drinking can cause certain procedures to fail, they can cause long term treatement to be needed, and they can cause more problems.

If you need any medical help that costs taxpayer money, then eat healthy and stop smoking or drinking. You owe it to the people paying for your treatement and to yourself.

if you dont need medical treatement then do whatever you want.
