SolidSnake really good posts and I feel your pain in losing what you had typed, it's happened to me a good few times. As I said great post and you, as well as Dom, Fenian and others have far more insight in to what's best for a forum.
When I said I would ban people and throw around the red cards like confetti, In all honesty I ould more than likely not do it that way, unless ofcourse it was just totally out of order, The best approach has to be communication, a wee friendly whisper in the ear of whoever is treading slightly beyond what is acceptable. There should be a good relationship between Mods and members which there seems to be. Personally I find them very approachable and cannot say a bad word about my dealings with the Mods I have dealt with.
The clique thing, it can seem that way I suppose, it's of no concern for me, that's even if it exists, it's people, it's real life, it happens. Anyway even if this clique or whatever turned up and started taking me on thinking they are wide boys and all that, hey this guy ain't for getting bullied, I'd take em all on.
The consistently going off topic thing, yeah it can be nippy, but hey Hawks came up with a perfect solution, so all good. It can be a nightmare, yeah, ok for people that might spend alot of time here and can follow what's going almost as it happens, all good. The prob for me is that if you don't frequent the boards as much then you have to go through from the begining and that can be time consuming and tedious and often pointless reading of many posts. The post has probably strayed way way off topic and your thinking Ahhh well What's the point in dragging the issue up for discussion again or whatever. Take this thread for example and that's just one of many, 20 odd pages and business as usual really.
I do find some posts are questionable, yeah very funny and all that but what the hell I'm of the older generation. You can throw anything at me ,but can seem sometimes that people have the blinkers on and don't take into account that the forums are open,used and seen by all that want to. That needs to be taken into account, I don't think that is always the case when someone decides to press that wee post button.
May seem i've knocking the place or whatever, but the positives far far weigh the negatives fo me or I just wouldn't come back.
