Stolen PS3 - credit card security??

[ Edited ]
15 Replies 250 Views edited 18-10-2008

My PS3 has just been stolen along with all games, accesories etc...

My question is this: Is it possible for the thiefs to extract my cradit card information from the PS3 or the account in some way?

How do I block access to the account, how do I cancel it? Should I block my credit card entirely?

I can't call Sony because it's the weekend, and I need to act quickly... HELP!

No, they wont have access to your full account number..

You will have to phone sony to cancel the account i think, the number can be found in a sticky over on the ps3 general forum..

Re: Stolen PS3 - credit card security??

Well my suggestion would be to run after the guy who stole it and stop him rather than posting about it on a forum, but I guess it's a bit too late for that now.

Is your account and password remembered to sign you in automatically?

I very much doubt they can access your credit card details, but they could still probably buy everything on the PS Store with it.

They need your password to get to your account management... even if they go in they can't see any worthwhile details. If you report the theft to Sony they can ban it when it's MAC address next goes online to the PSN (either via auto sign-in of your account or if they create their own account after selling it on).

Re: Stolen PS3 - credit card security??

Thanks for the replies!

I found out that you can edit your PSN ID account details in store.playstation.com. So I removed billing information, changed sign-in email and password. So the thief shouldn't be able to login automatically anymore, and even if he does somehow, the credit card info is gone...

Now to find a replacement for old 60GB PS3 with 250GB HD, 2 controllers, remote, PSeye, 2x external harddisks, Logitech MX Air, Sennheisser HD-515 headphones, 8 games, 9 Blu-ray movies, and some of my girlfriends jewelry :smileysad:

Don't fret even if you choose the make the ps3 remember the login detail it would still require the password to get the credit card details.
