Its not racist, its just descriptive, nothing wrong with it at all, they thought we were ghosts when they seen us, they didnt know how else to explain it. 

They are trying to change it to "western man", not because the old word was racist, but because china does not want people to be religious and ghost implies an after life and spiritual world.

What about the Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", where he goes to that allergy research centre, and all the girls happen to be allergic to food which is stereotypically linked to their race/nationality. The English girl eating chicken nuggets, the Chinese girl eating rice with chopsticks, the Indian girl eating a naan bread... and the black girl eating a banana.
