As with the mad-cow disease thing and other historical food scares, by the time it's in the news, it's too late to change your eating habits.

Indeed, but I suspect buying behaviour is influenced more by the thought of consuming horses than by any more fundamental considerations. And that will soon pass.

Can't they find a better story to report? really am suprised there is enough news to fill newspapers throughout the year. That's probably because they report the same story every day for a month.
