No, I'll have to buy it on DVD.
When the Queen was flying to the stadium with james bond in that made by the bbc section, you can clearly see a pink giant inflatable pig over London.

I thought it was just ok.
China was amazing, the uk was just ok, and the difference was this. China just put on a show, a fantastic we are rich, look at us show.
UK tried to be nostalgic and eccentric and it heavily relied on rolling out celebs, and I don't think it worked, and I thikn only UK people would highly praise it as it would strike more nostalgic chords with them than anyone else.
Would watching an enactment of the signing of declaration of independence, or a tribute to the dow jones make you want to visit America? not really. Would the famous people? nope, you dont go to America to see justin beiber or madonna you wait for them to tour. So what would?
Well what china did would, you just amaze people, and I think that was completley and totally missing and I think they decided to aim it more at British people to try make british people think "that wasnt too bad and didnt cost too much".
When I finished watching the chinese one i was left thinking china will rule the world, there is nothing on this planet they cant do. When I finished watching the uk one I was left thinking "that ran smooth enough".
I thought the new year fireworks in london were way way better, very impressed with them i was, I love shock and awe.

Thats pretty spot on there Fen. The Chinese put on a world class 'show' Danny Boyle relied too heavily on aging celebrities and British pop music which made it seem quite insular and dull and was lacking any real grand spectacle. I cant imagine there was a great deal of interest for a foreign audience there either. For me the worst part was the confusing teeny bopper digital age section with the house and images projected on it, it just didnt work.
The ceremony started well with the industrial revolution section and the amazing drum music with the forging of the rings and I was expecting it to build and get better but it just didnt happen. These opening ceremonies are not rock concerts or about celebrity, they are ment to be an artistic celebration of culture. The writing has been on the wall since the closing of Bejiing though where Leona Lewis belted out 'whole lotta love' and beckham was poncing around then. That was unimpressive and so was this opening ceremony.

Then towards the end when team GB came into the stadium the camera came onto her and she was just looking down and picking her fingernails.
she looked like she was just catching up on her knitting, probably making a woolly GB flag.
i liked that her opening speech was literally just one line. The Queen wanted to get through to the end just as quickly as everyone else.

She was just tired, it's been a long day for this Granny; to be sitting, waiting for some chavs to finish texting, no wonder she got bored, even I didn't get that part of the Olympics. The best part was the industrial revolution and the Great Ormond St. Hospital segmants, that's it. The worst part of it was the announcement of all 207 countries, I would of just said "Now introducing the Teams of planet Earth" and have done with it. ![]()
