Thinking of getting a new router

As my current one is ancient. I have seen three on amazon.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-F9K1002uk-Wireless-Router-N300/dp/B005626UJM/ref=sr_1_5?s=computers&i...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Wireless-High-speed-Connection-F5D8636uk4A/dp/B001IL4ZB0/ref=sr_1_3?s...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Increased-High-speed-Connection-F5D8635uk4A/dp/B001IL6R0W/ref=dp_cp_o...

I'm not sure on what the difference is between the bottom two except one has a USB port on it.

I'm mainly after the following:

1. Very good security

2. reliable and easy to use

3. Cheapish

4. Runs cool. Both the router and power plug.

5. Good range especially through thick walls.

6. Good for gaming.

Anyone got any ideas or reccomendations?

Please use plain text.

My reccomendation would be not to bother with the three you've linked to dince most people (myself included) would tell you to avoid any belkin networking product since they're utter garbage.

I prefer d-link over any netgear

I know what belkin are like. My parent have one of those routers I listed. They used to be problematic but I eventually fixed the problems and they now work fine.

I still hear mixed reviews about netgear and d-link though.

I'd get linksys.

Made by Cisco who make pretty much all business switches and networking. They know their stuff :smileyhappy:

EDIT: They are quite pricey because of this though.

Linksys and D-Link are by far the worst of the worst. Poor build quality, poor firmware, poor throughput and compatibility with DNLA for instance. Belkin have improved a heck of a lot and deserve serious consideration. Netgear are very, very good for build quality, firmware is very good and throughput is great after firmware updates are rolled out. Buffalo are also very good.

My experience? Over 10,000 wirelessly networked PC's. We have learnt which the best companies only choose between the three good ones I stated above depending on which is the cheaper at the time because you will be surprised how the prices fluctuate. We are not far off completely replacing the D-Link and Linksys models, they haven't handled the workload as well as one would expect. Personally I prefer the netgear's.

Clank... Cisco? Wireless? No. Wired? Yes. But wireless? They are useless.
