UK Gaming Industry get it's tax break

Well, the Tories have gone back on their rediculous move to put an end to the tax break that Labour introduced for gaming firms. Despite being warned that companies would leave the UK and thus mean the UK Tax coffers will pocket nothing, the Tories went ahead anyway because they were arrogant enough to think their plan would work.

It didn't, it back fired badly and the UK subsequently lost about 80% of it's gaming industry companies in less that 18 months to France, Canada and a select few other nations.

Although this helps the few that stayed behind, the damage has already been done. It would now be too expensive for these companies to come back so the only way for the UK gaming industry to recover as far as creative businesses is concerned it to hope that the tax relief leads to more companies now starting up. This is a scenario being seen as highly unlikely to recover to a the state of pre-Tory levels.

Try and think of something thoughtful to write Mike, I can't think of anything myself as I don't follow politics and tax is boring.

I guess this means I'll have to start buying my games from those darn online sites... With their cheaper prices, more reliable postage & better service overall... :smileysad:

Niether does Mike, unless "politics" is the code word he's given to the young, attractive, political student he's targeted next.

Re: UK Gaming Industry get it's tax break

It's meant to give similar tax breaks to gaming that have been enjoyed by the uk film industry, but is it really going to mean that companies developing for the main consoles will be more willing to take risks rather than relying on their intellectual properties, or that iphone games are going to be paid for by the tax payer?
