Urgh camping

Just got back from my four day DofE expedition, walking 20+ km a day in pouring rain, up hills, through swamps, 20k backpack etc. but all of those were minor inconveniences compared to camping in tents for four nights! :SadWitch:

Seriously, I cannot imagine what kind of person would voluntarily subject themselves to such unpleasantness and take more pleasure than hardship out of it? Sleeping on hard floor, with sheep crap under you, wind through the tent, tasteless boiled food, no shower for days, feeling as dirty as what you're sleeping on. God, who does this for fun?

Re: Urgh camping

We're camping at the British GP this weekend, it's the only bit I'm not looking forward to.

I love F1 but even I wouldn't go as far as camping for it.

Re: Urgh camping

Sleeping part of camping is not too bad but I couldn't live without showers, decent food and all that general sanitary stuff.

In one big naked pile? You know, for warmth...

Oh it is bad. I kept waking up every couple of hours and then having to change position but being unable to do so because of the sleeping bag. And then if you get really unlucky and get something hard under your back that just makes it so much worse. And the noise of rain bashing your tent. And the wind blowing the walls around. And the stench in the tent. And the hard floor not giving your muscles any rest. There is more but I think the point is clear.

But yeah agreed that the sanitary stuff is the worst part, but during the expedition you just have to ignore it and live as one would in a slum.

Fen had the same problem in the big pile.
