Video gaming cafes???

Can anyone ever see these coming into play? I've always thought it'd be quite cool to have a space solely dedicated to video gaming and socialising out of the house with the odd cup of tea or milkshake being made for you. Perhaps they never will now that gaming is so much about staying in and having the convenience of a console in your own home. Does anyone have any thoughts on such an idea? Could you ever see yourself going to a video gaming cafe?

Re: Video gaming cafes???

I would love to go to a video gaming café, as it's a great opportunity to meet new friends with an immediate common interest.

Yep it is a great idea. Often thought about it my self too.. Not sure how the pricing structure would work, or if you base it on a high mark-up on food n drinks, with a strict 'consumption of purchased refreshmens only'.
Plus any issues of copyright licences with 'public viewing'?

A bunch of LAN connected ps3's that let you use your psn login, for racing games, tournaments of team games eg front room v back in fps's.
Cafe score boards. Maybe even large areas for MOVE / wii competitions (to burn off all the snacks n make you more thirsty, so you buy more drinks. Etc etc

Good luck to anyone setting something like this up. Dont forget to invite me/us all to the grand opening.

I dont understand why struggling places like GAMEstation, hmv, blockbusters haven't all ready beaten you to it. To get people in their shops?

There are video gaming cafes all around the UK. Some here in Ireland that has a cafe that makes Bacon sandwiches and stuff =d There is Gamerbase in HMV London that I went to for a CS tournament but typically speaking I think going to Lan party's is the best way to go, you'll find more dedicated people there, and massive company's like Razer, Intel, Alienware etc giving out some free stuff, when you go to the good ones you can meet many great people and never forget the live concert like music that plays when your pwning some scrubs! Like a boss! A cafe is great for an community, but Lan party's probably 99.1% better, lots more people, lots more food, free gear for winning mini comps. Awesome self made computers, and your more than likely to meet people from around the world and not all the little chavs in a cafe =D

P.S: Call of Poopy is highly lol'ed upon on Lan party's if its not something like COD2 or Call of duty 4 =D

I must be walking round with my eyes closed then, as im in Birmingham (englands second city) an the only thing ive ever seen close was a SEGA only arcade place above a blockbusters, back in the early 90s. And ive never seen anything advertised in open public for such LAN events??

Maybe now im an oldie im just not mixing in the right circles to find out about these things :-(

I think GamerBase is the closest you'll see in most places to a gaming cafe. Just demand a coffee machine and you've basically got one :smileywink:

This one has vending machines directly to the right of this picture :smileytongue:

In Swansea there is a new gaming night club called Koopas that have gaming nights and tournaments and play metal/punk music. I think it's only been opened a month or two and I haven't been yet
