Wireless Networking...Help!

Well, as some of you may be aware, I intend on moving ISP's.

Orange provided a free wireless router with their service, and as I won't be with them anymore, I need a replacemet. It can be wired OR wireless really...not really important.

So...what is a good set of kit to get? I'd need the router obviously, and a wireless adapter for the PC, if it was wireless.

If not...just a long ethernet cable so I connect my 360 =D

Cheers for any help.

Re: Wireless Networking...Help!

Long ethernet cable, wireless PCMCIA card (much more reliable and much faster than a USB wireless dongle) and a long enough ethernet cable for your 360, and a decent router will do you. Netgear or Linksys are the best, can't really go wrong. I've always had Netgear routers with no real major issues that I've not been able to fix - mostly DHCP problems, but they're settings mishaps rather than hardware issues.

Get a Netgear refurb from eBay - get them for about £40 - well worth it.

So obviously I'd need the Wireless adapter for the PC too, along with that. And I'd be able to ethernet the 360 into it?

Re: Wireless Networking...Help!

All Netgear wireless routers have 4 ethernet ports too. And yes, you'd need the wireless for the PC. Unless the modem and router will be by the PC, in which case it makes more sense, both practically and financially, to just get a wired router, given you're going to wire your 360 anyway. You don't have as many things to worry about then - security, configuration, etc. Unless you have a need for wireless, there's not much point in getting it. If you don't know your stuff, you could be opening a can of worms in terms of security issues, though obviously I'm talking extreme cases here.

Re: Wireless Networking...Help!

Aye...I was thinking of the wired option. Just wireless...saves on the wires =\
