Slighty off topic, but may I ask how on Earth did you manage to do that?

It looks like you've been hitting it with a hammer. Which doesn't work on discs, only consoles, discs will just break.

He could have dropped it when he was naked and it accidentally landed on his boy tail.

Now I have read that some people are saying it's the ps3 itself causing the damage? Not sure what speed the disk gets spun at and the heat generated inside the unit? People who have contacted Sony have been given the answer that....'It's nothing to do with us'. The crack is currently about 0.5 of a mm which does make me wonder if the PS3 is the cause as if it was down to bad handling then surely it would be difficult to create such a tiny crack...it's almost surgical...

.

What are my statutory rights?

That the item is as described, that it is of satisfactory quality, safe and durable, and that it is fit for the purposes specified. If any of these are not the case, this is a breach of your statutory rights and it is the retailer’s responsibility to take action

i've only had it for a month so its certainly not durable is it

Not having any brand spanking new discs to compare them to I am coming to the conclusion that the cause of the cracks is a manufacturing fault which the PS3 exposes in time. The PS3 is not causing the cracks, they were there to start with.

Start with a crack on a disc the width of a hair and spin it at 10,000 rpm and it will grow. I played Bad Company for less than 6 days over a two week period and it now has a 25mm crack which has lead to it's early death. Anyone remember the plane that crashed many years ago in the US where they mangaged to get the plane to the runway just by using the engine power to steer the plane? Well the fault was in the rear engine fan blade. It was there since it was manufactured and was the size of a grain of sand that grew and eventually cracked with a tragic outcome.

I can verify my findings as my partners kids have had Pirates of the Carribean and Lego Star Wars Complete Saga for over a year and the discs are still going strong with NO cracks visible even with a Triplet X 10 Magnifying glass..as used by Jewelers to inspect gemstones.

My own Bad Company disc which is less than a month old is cracked and beyond use.

Surely it verifies that it is not a manufacturing fault and it is either your PS3 or you that is causing the cracks, if they are only appearing on your games?
