The playstation started from a joint venture that Ninty and Sony were going to go into together, so I would think that due to the way the "relationship" ended, they took with it what they could... and the design of the controller was born...

Fair enough.
It is (was in it's day) a good machine it's just the game developers didn't make the most of it. They just put the Amiga 1200 (and sometimes 500) games on a cd.
Some would make a video intro (Tower Assault) but there was nothing too special on it.
