On topic - If you're worried about messing it up (the laptop that is) you may as well just wait for your uncle to return and deal with finding the partition and what not. When is he coming back?

there are some reasonable responses among the madness. Get a boot disc somewhere or wait till your uncle is back.

Preferring to buy a new laptop rather than spend a lot less getting a boot disc makes no sense to me though unless you were planning on getting a new one soon anyway.
