Re: iOS5

i have been haveing soo much trouble updateing to this iOS5 >.< its such a pain

can anyone give idvice? il say what iv done so far -

my itunes is all up to date as well, i first plugged my ipod in thinking it would be easy and then loaded up itunes to start the update, cause iv got quiet a lot on my ipod touch (its a 4th gen) and it tells me it hasnt got enough memory on the pc to back up and sync, so i decided i might try and move itunes onto the hardrive, did that still got the same message, moved it back and my itunes stopped working on my main pc.

now iv got a laptop with a lot more memory so i installed itunes onto there, i authorised it backed up my ipod and synced it, now its telling me if i do it on the laptop il loose all my apps and purchases, now i know you can get them back but i realy dont like the idea of trying to find about 100+ apps try and re download them all and loose all my save data, so im now trying to reinstall it onto the main pc again after makeing enough memory.

the other problem with the laptop is it says it doesnt recognise it as the main synced area, considering i backed it up and synced it serveral times and as i said i authorised it as the 2nd itunes point as well, i did however orginaly sync it first on my main pc.

but first off

1. how do i get it to accept my laptop as a sync and update area so i dont loose all my apps?

2. will reinstalling itunes on the pc make it loose the fact thats its the main sync point?

3. and what am i suposed to do if it does loose all the apps is there an easy way to get it back?

4. lastly if the sync thing works and eveything is fine on the main pc? when i update, when it does sync eveything does that mean i wont loose all my data?

please help, this is the most hassle iv ever had to go through just to get a software up date done.

if it does sound quiet confusing as well or if i have missed anything please say and il answer with what iv done. thanks

Re: iOS5

@Pyro Werewolf. Not sure if this is any help but I updated my iPad 2 last night, and I lost most of my apps - even though it said it was going to transfer them to my iTunes library.

I'm not sure if it's the same with the iPod, but on the App Store on the iPad you can go to 'Purchases' at the bottom of the screen and then 'Not on this iPad'. It shows all the apps that you have downloaded in the past, but aren't currently installed.

Just re-install them again. It didn't take long at all to do.

Still - iTunes has always confused me, and nothing's changed. Apple products really have some unintuitive processes to go through to get the simplest of jobs done !

Re: iOS5

well just a lil update iv got my itunes working on my pc again

i plugged my ipod in and made just enough room to update so i tried to update and got an error -402636788 so i googled it and it doesnt seem anyone has an answer, so i tried syncing it first maually then update it, but that didnt work and it said there wasnt enough memory and now iv lost memory on the pc somewhere which im now trying to make up to sync again.

i keep getting error -5000 as well,

so does anyone know what the errors are at all and anymore solutions?

thanks for the reply THE_FORCE, and it looks like im going to loose eveything anyway from the looks of it, but your fix doesnt seem to bad what about save data though? would you loose all of that if the apps go?, im still realy amazed that its so much trouble to do this >.< it better be worth it in the end

Re: iOS5

Hi again Pyro. Regarding Save Data - I just tried Chaos Rings, and the save data for that was still on my iPad so fingers crossed you should be good to go.

Re: iOS5

I need some advice regarding the iCloud, basically because I have an iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s, basically they both have exactly the same data on them.  As it takes blo0dy ages to sync to the iCloud i decided to leave my iPhone 4 at home plugged in to sync.  Only problem i have is this 'backup' is for my iPhone 4, now this only corresponds to that phone, if i backed up on iCloud from iPhone 4s it would create a separate backup.  Does anyone have any ideas how to tackle this issue and allow the backup to correspond to my 4s.  Thanks in advance

Wouldn't you would want it to create a separate backup for each phone? I guess that would be the way it works anyway as most people with two phones would have different data on them.

Yes ideally i would, but because it is taking so long to upload what  have done is synced my 4s to itunes, then restored that backup onto my iphone 4 and left the 4 at home to upload to the cloud, it's still uploading as we speak and i started at 10am.  Anyway, basically it's taking so long to uplaod and my 4s would never be at home that long.

The iCloud servers must be very busy at the moment with everyone migrating data to them.

I only use iCloud for syncing between devices so far, not backing up. I'm not sure it's worth the cost of the extra disk space required.
