Deploying to Xperia Play

Hey guys,

I've seen mention that we can deploy our apps and games to the Sony tablets and Xperia phones but I can't seem to find out how or where to do this? Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Martin

Re: Deploying to Xperia Play

Nevermind, figured out I just needed to enable USB Debugging in Settings -> Applications -> Development and all is good now :smileyhappy:

Re: Deploying to Xperia Play

I've enabled USB Debugging as described, but the device doesn't show up in the target list - even if I refresh it. Is there another step?

Re: Deploying to Xperia Play

Follow the instructions in this thread.  The thread is about the sony tablet; but the overall process is the same.

Re: Deploying to Xperia Play

Thanks. So it sounds like I need to install psslauncher.apk, but it doesn't say where to get it from. It doesn't seem to be part of the SDK and it isn't in the same place that I got the Vita launcher from. Where is it?!?

Re: Deploying to Xperia Play

It is part of the SDK.  Look inside the tools folder under the pss directory.  You will have to transfer it to the Xperia Play via USB and then install it in the device.

Thanks, found it. Not being a big windows user, I had mistakenly assumed  that the Windows search tool would find it if it was on my computer. Apparently not.

Okay, I'm an Android n00b too, so for the benefit of other Android n00bs, here's what I did so far:

- Find psslauncher.apk in the tools directory
- Copy it to the root directory of the SD card
- Downloaded an app installer from the Android Marketplace (after creating a Google account in order to get into the Marketplace)
- Used the app installer to install the psslauncher app

- Enabled USB debugging in Settings -> Applications -> Development
- Run the newly installed psslauncher app

At this stage I believe that the Android device is supposed to show up as a target in PSS Studio. However it doesn't - even if I select Project -> PSS Device Target -> Refresh Device List.

Is there another secret step that I'm supposed to guess?

Re: Deploying to Xperia Play

On the windows side, you need to install the Android SDK and the ADB driver for the device.  This will allow you to communicate with the device.  After this, your device will show up in the Sony SDK.  I went through all the steps you're going through to communicate with my Sony tablet.

Re: Deploying to Xperia Play

Actually it turns out that the final step was to reboot my PC. Once I did that it all magically started working and now I have the joy of seeing the GC pausing my game for a whole second at a time (I haven't removed dynamic memory allocation yet).

I miss iOS development.
