Distribution Methods

This wasn't entirely clear to me from the information released so far, so I'm asking for clarification.

I understand that later this year you'll be able to pay the $99 for the ability to release PSS Apps onto the store. Will this be the only way to get apps onto a device aside from connecting the device to PSSuite and running tethered to the debugger?

Is there an AdHoc distribution method that could be used to privately distribute apps to some devices/users that we register? I'd like to port an open source app whose license most likely will not be compatible with a release on the store. Since the source will be available, it would allow other developers to run copies on their devices, but I'm wondering if this can trickle down to a limited number of end users per developer as well.

Re: Distribution Methods

I would assume during the open beta that anyone with a PS certified device (or not) will be able to download the SDK and compile your code. You could send your code to testers for them to compile and deploy to their devices... I would also assume there's a way to send them the binaries and run the program that handles deployment manually too if you don't want to send them the code.

Also, you don't need to have the debugger attached to run your apps, you can run them from the PSS app on your device after the initial deployment.

Hi Sappharad,

Correct. You will need to pay the $99 publishing license to get your applications onto the device once we have the Official Release (this will be required for testing on the devices too).

You will only be able to distribute development builds of your applications (ie. launching through the Studio), but as far as I know, you will not be able to share applications which are not available to

everyone on the store.

If you'd like any further clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks.
