GOW 1 help

I just got GOW collections.  I started GOW1 and cannt get by the big Hydra in the first part of Aegean Sea.  I know it is supposted to be after you knock the Hydra down you hit O then hit O timed button sequences.  The secence for for mine is OO O, but yet I cannot seam to get it correct to break the mast.  Anyone know a way around this?  I have tried to finish this for like 3 hrs.    Thank you
