Re: 200 laps around nurburgring

Good luck with your event, mister00man, and welcome to the GT forum, here!

It will be interesting to see if the responsiveness of the room, with 16 people in it, will be 100%.

Many events perform better with only 12, so you might want to test things, with your drivers, first.

Re: 200 laps around nurburgring

good luck with that

Connections can drop at any time and after thirty one hours you'll be lucky to have anyone left in the room to race. And, thirty one hours? Really? Before PD brought in the ability to save endurance races quite a few peeps around here wouldn't even comtemplate doing the 9hr Tsukuba, never mind a thirty one hour super endurance...

Re: 200 laps around nurburgring

Strangely enough, that is something I would have a crack at.

Sadly, the timing isn't great, as that's the date I fly away for work for 1 week.

As already suggested, what you are proposing is a serious commitment that few, I fear, would take up.

30..ish hours of A Spec racing (at least, if your lucky) with no prizes at the end of it, would be a bridge too far for most.

And considering the possibilities of power or connection loss during the event, I'm not sure how many takers you'll get.

As an alternative, perhaps you could offer a shorter event (possibly much shorter yet still endurance), with a PP restriction to offer allowance for many varying car types, as opposed to an essentially open BHP bracket which almost immediately suggests the field type, and then build from there once you have a group of like-minded racers.

I like the idea of the Nurburg 24 track, but 200 laps essentially being forced to use the most powerful cars available, could be pushing the boundaries a bit far.

Saying that, good luck with your race and I hope you get some takers..

I look forward to your response, and possibly your next event.

That's the thing, though.

We (man) learn certain things from our mistakes, so when he sees the reaction to his proposed race, given enough time and effort, he can modify his plan, either before or after, to make it better. Before to make this one work; after to make the next one better. At this stage and not knowing anything about him, I'd still give him the benefit of doubt to pull it off. However, my experience with long endurance races would indicate that he has an uphill struggle to find enough drivers. A maximum of 12 who would stay until the end would be great!

(Insert standard reminder here.)

There is no need to worry about short-term power loss, if you use a UPS. It is unlikely that most people would have one that would cover 30 hours, but then most power blips are quite short anyway. Nobody should run something like a modern, on-line game console, or something with a hard drive, without the protection of a UPS.

31 hours straight? without a rest? is that possible lol!!! Possibly some kind of a record if you pull it off!

Re: 200 laps around nurburgring

Would work only with more than 1 player behind the PSN name, as, the Le Mans is driven by 3 drivers, not by solo, sounds awesome tho.

Got few things in mind that could ruin the whole thing...

1. If person is losing online race, he will propably quit early

2. People cant stay awake that long driving constantly

3. Bladder will become your enemy

Re: 200 laps around nurburgring

Some points could be raised out of this, i.e. playing a videogame for more than a couple of hours is bad for your health you need a break every so often, and you could argue that PD were a bity irresponsible putting in endurance races without the option to save initially. To the OP: how are you going to eat???

Re: 200 laps around nurburgring

The answer to some of the points raised above, and I have suggested this before with respect to the offline A-Spec endurance races, and that is to involve a few mates. Get two other drivers round at your house to share the load. While one person is driving, the other two could watch a movie, or have a game of chess, go for the takeaway. Or even just watch your mate racing. Get a few beers in, not too many of course. The whole event becomes that much closer to the real thing, in my opinion, and sure beats sitting there for hours on end on your lonesome. Limit yourselves to two hours in the driving seat, perhaps less than that.
