I have a PS3 slim, the other day Gran Turismo 5 updated to ver 2.0, a few hours later i started having problems.
The PS3 would freeze (lock up), not responsive to any controls, power button not working either.
I have followed advice and done a factory re-set, format and back to factory settings etc.
It will now turn on, load GT5 (very slowly) and offer the first update for the game 608MB, this downloads and gives Error 80010038 when trying to install, the PS3 then freezes completly, only way to turn it off is to hold power button for 10 sec or pull power cord.
I can get into GT5 by skipping the update, but the game will freeze if i try to do a race or licence test and PS3 locks up.
basically from what i can tell the GT5 2.0 update has killed my PS3, its not working properly now.
Can anyone please help?

Its never the update, its an issue with your PS3.
have you tried searching the error code?

Just thinking, if it is the update- it would affect everyone.
Maybe- although I have no idea how it would or why- the update may conflict with certain things already on your PS3. If it were copy protected game save files, reformatting the PS3 would surely exclude both these things?
Assuming that reformatting a PS3 actually wipes everything completely.
I have noticed my PS3 occasionally turns black and kind of seizes up. Sometimes it recovers, sometimes it kind of slows to like 4 FPS then either returns to normal or I get the 3 beeps and it powers itself down.
Started after GTA4, happens now in fight night champion and rarely in GT5.
I think maybe your (and my PS3) may just be reaching their sunset clause and dying naturally of old age?

Hey I downloaded the update through wireless connection and it was fine. I am not very good with this sort of stuff but am willing to help if I can. How many GB is your console? It might not have enough space left. You have probably already looked at this but it is the only thing I can think of. Hope this helps mate, hope you had a back up copy of your gameplay data.
