Re: First Driving Game?

Ha ha, with people constantly moaning about loading times for GT5, they should have tried loading a game on a Commadore 64 or a Vic 20! Put a cassette in, wait for half an hour for it to say "Syntax Error"! Repeat 4 times and you might get to play! Kids these days have never had it so good!!!

Re: First Driving Game?

My first racing game ever was the Stunts on Amiga if I remember it correct, remember how I made own tracks on that with nasty loops and obstacles with lakes and such, funny game that was. And hard

It is possible that first racing game was also one for amiga which name I cant remember but it had customisable cars which you bought via newspaper, and you could had engine ripped apart, change parts and put it back together, ahh memories.

Re: First Driving Game?

It was Pole Position for me also, and I remember finding it so hard... but then I was only 8 years old or so.

I also remember being blown away by the graphics on the first Need for Speed - Hot Pursuit. Played that game until the disc wore out.

Anyone play an arcade game called "Super Sprint"? It had three steering wheels and you raced the other two drivers and some AI cars around a track, looking down from above... almost like radio control cars. It had jumps, short-cuts with doors that opened and then closed and you had to time your short-cut or plow into the closed door. I must have spent hundreds of dollars in quarters after school on that one.

Must be about 10 years now since console and computer graphics have surpassed arcade game graphics.

Re: First Driving Game?

Also remember a really good arcade one called "Road Blaster" You had to drive the circuit and pick up fuel cells and shoot other cars off the track with the guns mounted on your car. Brilliant!

I think mine was from awesome developers Gremlin Graphics, who are making a come back bringing some of their older games updated to iphone/pads etc :smileysurprised:

It was definitely something on the Spectrum +2 as that was my first computer in about 1986 which would make me 7 and a reasonable age to own my first computer  :smileywink:

Just found out mine was the first Spectrum made by Amstrad and not Sinclair after the buyout :smileysad:
