Re: For anyone interested - my racing seat project.

I know most of you have prob seen my setup before in the "Post your gaming setup thread" but I'm so proud of it I am going to post it here too.

Re: For anyone interested - my racing seat project.

Had a go with a G25 in the flesh for the first time today. The build quality of the thing is fantastic, especially the pedals, They've got a real sturdy feel to them. How much do you guys find yourselves using the buttons on the wheel itself? I'm curious since that seems to be one of the main differences between the G25 and the G27 so if they're not that useful that's another reason for me to settle for the G25.

I only use the buttons on the wheel to look back, so that leaves me with the other button spare. Plus if you need extra buttons at ur finger tips just map the paddle shifters to what even function you want, my right paddle shifter is mapped to handbrake.

The G27 isnt a dramatic change at all really so I  urge u to go the G25

Re: For anyone interested - my racing seat project.

What are your feelings on the new shifter? The G27 has removed the tiptronic option which supposedly makes the shifter feel more solid. I had a play around with the one in the store and the switch between the two shifter modes did sort of feel a little dinky. Also I think it had taken a bit of a pounding because it didn't seem to work correctly in tiptronic mode...

Re: For anyone interested - my racing seat project.

well I dont like sequential shift, I much rather the H pattern myself. You can mod the G25 shifter for more realistic resistance, but you have to take shifter apart to do that. It's simple and if you do it carefully and take your time you wont damage any of the internals. The way the shifter is out of the box is way to easy to put into gear and feels really weak, but after you do these mods it feels like your shifting gears in a real car. If you decide to get the G25 I can give you some tips and instructions on how to mod the shifter, like I said it's simple and is worth the hassle of taking it apart.

Re: For anyone interested - my racing seat project.

Small update  - Have finished the contruction, and have since pulled it apart for painting.  The wooden parts are going to be a burgundy colour that I hastily picked whilst in bunnings with an impatient 4 yr old and partner, but I think it will go good with the matt black frame / stainless bolts.  The alloy angle will remain unpainted as it is a nice look.

Speaking of which, I have painted the frame now, and it is sitting ready for the other parts to be re-assembled once they are painted.

I have included a couple of photos of the painted frame, as you can see it turned out quite good, i really like the look of the bolts, even my partner commented on how good it looks that I didn't paint the bolts. :smileyhappy: (thats a lot for her :smileywink: )

I have put casters on the back, as you can see, so that transporting it will be a heck of a lot easier!

Re: For anyone interested - my racing seat project.

Finished :smileyhappy:

All done, except I don't like the way it really turned out - the colour of the MDF I'm not fond of, and I should have left it unpainted!

Ah well thems the breaks.  I changed the mounting of the shifter to use allan bolts so it can be removed quickly to get through doorways.

I also made a pedal support, which was built quickly as a temp fix, but I like it, so I'm not going to do any further modifications.

OK, well, thanks for watching.

Re: For anyone interested - my racing seat project.

Thanks for sharing, and great work. I hope all that hard work will help to take off the extra 0.1's.

Unfortunately all this talk has given me inspiration to build "something" better than my rickety fold-down table and random chair setup I current have. lol
