Isn't there also an acceleration boost due to the remaining Rear wheel on the tarmac/brick getting more power.

Yes, there is. There is also a speed boost by clipping the AI cars on the Ring event.

I can't hold the players to fault, they found an exploit that should have been closed by PD. I can only hope the Round 8 (where it matters) is free from glitches, workarounds and cheats.

Re: GT Academy 2012 - Round 1 & 2 Discussion

I wondered what was going on! You can clearly tell there's some sort of speed boost in 1-2. I got to place 11th I think on that one but I still don't understand this method everyone's using.

For example in 1-2, people seem to slot their inside wheels behind the kerb, the car bounces a bit and they get more speed.

And now I'm given 1-3 the razzers, but not getting anywhere. It seems by chance I got to position 78. I do not get the trick in this one! There seems to be speed boost from the first kerb and the grass trick, and the last kerb :/

Re: GT Academy 2012 - Round 1 & 2 Discussion

PD and SONY GT teams are watching during this non-contest part of the Academy, which means they will be making adjustments, as they feel necessary, as they have done in previous Academies.

However, the more eyes they have finding things, the better, so keep posting about issues when you have evidence.

Why?

This is what makes it a race and a challenge.

He's boosting by using the glitch/exploit previously mentioned.

It's something that PD should have closed/out or fixed but basically it works like this.

When the car is driven part on/part off the tarmac, the inherant trait that PD programmed into vehicles with open diffs, results in the wheels which are off track spin faster, thus causing the wheels which are on track to also spin faster providing an 'acceleration boost', however PD neglected to address the issue that traction should be reduced when running on grass.

Unless you are willing to use this exploit, don't bother challenging any of the top few hundred times on these events, they all use it.  Just pray that this exploit is not present in round 8 when it really matters.

Besides, I look at it this way. If the drivers using this exploit progress to the point where they actually qualify for the GT Academy, the true nature of their 'skill' will soon become apparant.  Though it is a shame that truely talented clean drivers maybe passed over.

On 1-1 you have to be a bit lucky but also have some precision that's for sure if you want the top times (And that is some skill in itself). But I don't believe the true top drivers use it (The glitch). I know on the last 'All equal' time trial which was the GTR me and GTP_Holland both knew about it but we didn't use it. The fact is the fast will always be fast and just because of the exploit doesn't mean they are slower.

I must admit the anchor point on any track in a kerb is used by anyone and everyone, and it is used in real life. I will say though that any advantage a driver can get legally they would and should in fact go for it, as you would in real life.
