Re: GT5 car design

And before you say the standard cars are just as realistic as the premium ones answer this...

Why is the jaguar XJR-9 LM race car faster as a standard than premium?

I used both cars, with the exact same settings on the same track and the standard version brakes harder, accelerates faster and reaches a higher top speed.

On that basis 800 cars are wrong

I dont expect to buy a game renowned for its amazing graphics and find out it has 800 pixelated cars which look no different to the cars on Gran turismo PSP

I really don't know what your gripe is. Look at it this way. The '800 pixelated cars' didn't all have to be in the game but Kaz decided to throw the majority of them in anyway as a token gesture and the rest of  them as a prerequisite for one or two GT Life events.

Its Kaz's Job to have this game to the best of his ability so nothing is done as a "token gesture" for example: I'm a chauffeur, I dont pick up my clients and take them to their destination as a gesture of good will, i do it because its my job.

Have you ever heard the term 'above and beyond'?  (I'm sure you say more to your regular clients than, get in, we're here, get out.)

I was just saying we were given more cars than was really necessary as a way of making up for the delay in the release of the game. Further, the statement I made was a "look at it this way" not a statement of fact but a way to feel good about the game, my way.

Besides, I am not disappointed at paying less that £00:05 for each of the '800 pixelated cars'  but I respect your opinion too so can we agree to differ without rancour?  :smileyindifferent:

Re: GT5 car design

I treat every client the same, i go out of my way for every client and thats why i get more work because the people who hire me know i wont take the mick with price, i look after them and get them to thier destination on time. Thats how kaz should expect to sell more copies. Be better than his opposition and beat them in every way. Then there would be no disatisfied customers and a hell of a lot more copies sold.

Everyone can knock shift 2, forza 4, test drive, need for speed etc... But they all have different things they are better at. Now imagine a game that adds all of those things together... Gt5 couldve been that game but because they rushed at the end they made just another game thats good at its own thing. I rant soo much because i have seen how the gt series has progressed so i expected more from PD

. So why didn't PD advertise the 250 premium cars and 800 standard cars before sale? Because they knew a lot of people would ask why the poor graphics on such an advanced system (especially when the competition have no problem with graphics).

Well you see they did. PD & Sony made  people aware by the press confrences and shows that they attended.

Why you are getting worked up over an issue in an 18 month old game that is not going to be resolved this side of the fourthcoming apocalypse is beyond me. At the end of the day its just a game.

Just two more thing's i'd like to add as well.

#1 Some people paid £150 for the game. (I was one of them and love it, 800 standard looking cars.... so what)

#2 Ive seen the competition and I dont raie some of it that much.

Re: GT5 car design

Regarding the Standard cars, there is one other aspect I think people need to bear in mind.

In an interview with Top Gear magazine in 2008, Kaz was asked about why GT5 kept getting delayed. One of the reasons was the shear amount of programming that each car required, namely 6 man months per car!! and that doesn't include the photograhy, sound recording, researching the handling of the car etc.

Now a little maths, for simplicity sake, lets say there are exactly 800 Standard cars. In order to convert all 800 cars to Premium level it would take the EQUIVALENT of 400 people working 24hrs a day 7 days a week for a solid year to convert all the cars up to Premium level for a 18month old game, assuming you had the staff to do it in the first place.

Tell me, as a programming house, would you commit that level of man power to an 18 month old game, or would you concentrate on new software, as it is I think we should grateful that PD are still trying to improve GT5, I'm not sure other software companies would.

I'm not knocking those who are frustrated with Standard cars, I know it can be annoying, there are cars like the Jag XF or the Audi R8 '09 model race cars that, as new cars, should have been Premium but aren't, but hey lets give credit where credits due with what PD HAVE managed to give us rather then continually moaning about what we don't have.
