GT5 save data transfer between PS3 consoles

Hello all,

I am writing a complaint about Gran Turismo 5 involving the fact that you cannot transfer your game saves to another playstation console. I (as i'm sure many other people have) have more than one PS3 in the house and other family members need to be able to transfer their game save data for Gran Turismo 5 between their other PS3 systems. There are times where we are "kicked off" our games consoles by other members of the family as they want to watch something on the T.V.

Lock: "COPYING PROHIBITED" - COPYING OF THIS SAVE DATA IS NOT ALLOWED

I understand that copying of installed Game DATA in the "GAME DATA UTILITY" needs to be protected as this protects against piracy but data in the SAVED DATA UTILITY should not have these restrictions as we would need to physically disconnect, unplug and move the PS3 Games console to the other locations in our house (I'm sure you can imagine how frustrating that would be!)

Sony, (and Polyphony Digital) I would like to ask you, PLEASE could you update your software and REMOVE the save data copy lock?

thankyou for your consideration

The Copy Lock has been put on to ensure integrity of the Online section of the game as far as I know.

Sadly it probably won't be taken off.

Re: GT5 save data transfer between PS3 consoles

Well actually I think it will be because of another reason....

I've noticed with other PS3 games that use the save game lock, its because of 'paid for' DLC...so in one way, this is a good indication that GT5 will be getting DLC.

The way I see it, anything that is encluded into your save that has the potential to be 'copied' to someone else, would have been a way to buy the DLC once then copy it to your friends.

CMR Dirt 2 had this lock as does NFS Shift - both games that have paid for DLC.

The only downside for me (and a lot of others) when you have been playing for ages and ages, you would really like to back up your save!  I had to start NFS Shift all over again when my 60GB YLOD!  Not a happy camper that day!

Re: GT5 save data transfer between PS3 consoles

The copy protection on the saved data is to prevent people from hacking the trophies.

This has already been discussed at some length here.

Re: GT5 save data transfer between PS3 consoles

Another member of my family:

We have three PS3′s in the house and want the flexibility to play my game wherever I choose – if my wife is watching TV in the lounge why should I wait – I am happy to play the game on a smaller TV in the spare room – that’s why I bought three consoles (lounge, my room and son’s bedroom) to be chained to a single console for a a massive game like GT5 which will probably eat 500+ hours of play time is rediculus. If this is designed to stop cheats then I would prefer them to switch off online play althogether and give me my save transfer back !!! Or will Sony refund the cost of two of my PS3 consoles?

Re: GT5 save data transfer between PS3 consoles

If a person chooses to buy 3 consoles, that's their decision, Sony did not make them do it.

If I want to play GT in another room, I'll unplug the console, move it to the other room, plug it in and play, not waste the money buying an extra console.

Re: GT5 save data transfer between PS3 consoles

Yes I'm sure Sony doesn't want people buying more than one PS3.  Why would they?

We have two PS3s and two copies og GT5.  The copy lock is a big problem for us.

We also would like LAN play.

Re: GT5 save data transfer between PS3 consoles

yea i'm super *****! i just played the game for 4-5 hours on my friend's console (who doesn't even own GT5), and then i went to load MY saved game data to MY console and it wont let me!??!? ***** man!?  why can't it be like any other online downloads, good for up to 3 consoles... or just figure a way to transfer info using online ID when you sign on, like temporary files or something, i dunno, i'm no computer wiz but i'm sure someone in the 5 year long making of the game process has to have some kind of good idea, i'm sure a lot of them have more than one ps3 and are also a bit frustrated with this problem!

Re: GT5 save data transfer between PS3 consoles

First of all this post isnt a fix or a mone its a question in a way.

If you cant copy game data to another PS3 then surly thats the same as backing up your PS3.

To back up a PS3 you need to do it via usb to a dongle or external HDD. That to me is the same

thing as this (sorry if im wrong just conserned now in a way)

So basicly it seams to me you cant back up you game data on your ps3?
