GT6 Career Mode Hints and Tips.

Considering we don't have a dedicated thread on this topic, it's time to fire one up.

And it's the right time for me to start one, as I've hit a brick-wall with my progress.

Well ... it's a brick-wall, but with self-imposed conditions.

I have been trying to get as far as I can through Career Mode without spending a single Credit.

Simply using the Prize cars, and without any tuning, and also without any DLC packs whatsoever.

So here's how far I made it through.

Obviously I started the game with 30,000 Credits, and had to buy the Honda Fit for 17,000.

I also bungled an attempt to suspend a championship, which is why I have two extra races when compared with the Stars count.

Prize cars are very limited, and as you can see I have a measly tally of 25 cars in the garage.

So lets take a look at where these Prize cars are won.

And also take a look at what must be bought for each Career level.

First, let's look at Prize cars outside Career mode.

So that's it for now.

Obviously I didn't make it to the half way point of International A, so there is a lot of info. still missing.

But that's where my game stands without spending any Credits.

I could have filled in the blanks with some internet research, but opted not to.

Let's make this an OPC community knowledge thread.

Any extra details from those who have 'been there and done that' is welcomed.

We will try to update the OP as the info. rolls in

Any additional tips of any kind, ie. best car for a particular event, is also appreciated.

So if you're a wealth of knowledge, then this is the place to share it.

Or if you are simply looking for some advise, then don't be shy, just ask away.

National A (All Stars) - RE Amemiya FD3S RX-7
Super license - Tesla Motors Tesla Roadster '08

You will most likely need a LMP for the several S-Series races to be competitive and from what I seen it should be good

No loses yet Tassie, I have already lost 8, one by 1m 30s, that'll teach me to try and use even cars.

Re: GT6 Career Mode Hints and Tips.

Nice Thread Tassie you beat me to it!

I too set out with the same intention of seeing if it was possible to win with just prize cars but quickly determined that you wouldn't be able to do it as there aren't enough given out to ensure you'll have a chance. All the one make races require a purchase etc..

So I have restricted myself to not using the 15th Anniversary cars or the 1Million credits, just what I win.

I have allowed myself to change tyres and suspension but no engine tuning.

Nice one spectre.

Cheers for the info.

No loses. :smileywink:

But I was starting to 'cheat' a bit towards the end, finding myself cutting chicanes etc. to grab a win.

That's mainly why I decided enough was enough with the Credit thingy.

Well, that plus I was running out of events I had any chance of winning.

Nah mate.

Took me ages to get running properly though.

In the end I had to grab a new PS3 because of the stupid Blu-ray reader playing up.

Cheers Spin.

I opted to download the DLC car packs, thinking I could keep running with the zero Credits idea.

But some models aren't allowed in the One Make Events, so now I've blown it anyway. :smileysad:

Guess the best I can do now is limit using the DLC cars, and only spend what's absolutely necessary on things like the Karts etc.

Re: GT6 Career Mode Hints and Tips.

Struggling with multiple race championships?

Does one error ruin all your hard work?

Use the 'Suspend Championship' function after each race.

It's even possible to 'Suspend Championship' before the start of Race 1 if you find a favourable grid line-up and wish to keep those AI cars as your competition for the championship.

Suspending after every race allows you to have a major whoopsie, like being turned around by an AI car, and not destroy the entire championship, because you can simply press the PS button and quit game.

Re-booting the game will take you back to the start of that race, and you can try again.

Re: GT6 Career Mode Hints and Tips.

International A (ia): GT Kart Championship 125 Shifter.

OMG this was very difficult for me, the first two races were fine but the last one in the arena felt impossible.

Tip that worked for me: First suspend the race before you start as describe by  “Tassie_tiger” above. If you’re not in at least 3rd or 4th by lap 6 of 8 then pause, press the ps3 button and exit to try again.

Then, for the arena race only, set the Max Speed to 130mph and don’t make any mistakes. I managed to catch the last one on the start of the last lap..pheew Also this kart might have Nitrous but it didn’t seem to  make any difference for  me, or maybe I was doing something wrong.

Good luck.

Re: GT6 Career Mode Hints and Tips.

I really hate karts but not as much as nascar. Why not take note of each track for the kart and practice with setup taking notes for best lap time and set up.

You can change the nitro power upto 50% in settings.

I suggest you buy the chaparral 2J it just wins everything.

Paints might be expensive but you don't lose them, you pay for the colour not the chip to be used so now you can have all your cars in one glorious mental chrome pink if that's your thing.

Re: GT6 Career Mode Hints and Tips.

Super: Half Stars - McLaren F1 '94
Super: All Stars - Audi Sport quattro S1 Pikes Peak '87

I was able to do the Super Series with just 2 cars. The Aston Martin ONE '77 and Bentley Speed 8.
I used the Aston Martin ONE for the 2 normal car races and would not recommend it, its not worth the money or the trouble in trying to win those races had to shuffle the fields and restart several times.
I used the Bentley Speed 8 for the rest of the races just power limiting it when needed.

Re: GT6 Career Mode Hints and Tips.

Good tips guys.

And yeh, the kart events are tough.

We've almost all info. needed to complete the list in the OP, so I'll ask LordRoss if he can edit it for us.

One thing that's been mentioned, but not spoken specifically of is the starting grid line-up.

If you're struggling with any event, don't forget you can always quit the event and then re-enter to get a changed list of AI cars.

Rinse and repeat until you're happy with the competition car line-up.

Avoiding the Toyota 7 Race Car in the Historic Race Car Cup is a good idea.

That thing corners like it's on rails, and absolutely flies down the straights.

My Shelby Anniversary could catch the P330's and 2D's and 2J's, but that Toyota was too quick. :smileysad:
