Actually, it's about 4 years old right now, give or take a month. Came out in late '06 in the US and Japan. Still, been a good 6 years since GT4. Understandable is giving them a few years to get the PS3 done right, which they managed with Prologue, but GT5 really should have come out late in '09 at the latest. I'd say it really is a year overdue as it is.

Well, it's not as ridiculous as Duke Nukem Forever, but quite honestly I don't think this close to release there's anything really major they need to put in. All the coding should be done by now - your game either works or it doesn't, this close out I think it's a safe bet to say it does.
A new car? That wouldn't be it. Polyphony spends months making a single car, they're the main reason it's taken this long for the game to see daylight. Even if it were, it's called DLC for a reason.
Something to do with online play? That's probably the most plausible explaination, but again it should all be working by now.
Marketing strategy? Come on, unless I really haven't been paying attention, there isn't a landmark racing series on PS3 that will trump GT5 between now and Christmas. A couple of weeks won't make GT5 any less desireable.
But I reckon I know why they've done it - it's to do with the Christmas rush coupled with pre-owned titles. If the game is released early November, it gives stores like EB, JB-HiFi and every world equivelent the opportunity to make offers for pre-owned copies, display them on-shelf for the Christmas rush and reap 100% of the profits. By delaying the game until the first week of December, the rush begins for Christmas presants, there are less second-hand copies available for the stores to get their hands on and people will be forced into buying new copies of the game, thus the developer gains profits it would otherwise miss out on.
So on that note, don't vent your anger at Polyphony but moreso at the feet of EB Games & Co. who are ripping off developers and crippling the industry.

Don't forget the sale of Limited Edition consoles... particularly in Japan..
Incidently, our passionate gaming friends over there not only market Limited and Collector Editions, but First Prints as well... PlayAsia has one listed now.. When I bought the asia release of the Japanese Language edition of FFXIII, it would have cost me over twice the cost of it to by the 'First Print' Japan copy..... for very little difference other than a sticker on the wrapper and a slight colour differene with the hologram on the front..

Just stop it with the release date no one knows for sure! If you got a website that supports your theory get it from the Official Gran Turismo website or the Sony website! Not a website that said that some guy on facebook heard from some guy on twitter that heard from...
Or a website that claims to be legitimate!
