Gran Turismo SPORT

"On the 27th of October 2015 (local time) at the Paris Games Week event, "Gran Turismo SPORT" was announced, exclusively for PlayStation®4."

Here's the full clip from the SONY conference with Kazunori Yamauchi on stage announcing Gran Turismo SPORT.

Polyphony Digital and SONY have been quick off the mark, and we already have a new section on the Gran Turismo website, plus articles posted on both the EU and US PlayStation Blogs.

So let's take a look.

"The latest instalment of the Gran Turismo franchise, which as of March 2015 has sold over 75 million copies worldwide, is coming to PlayStation®4 with the name “Gran Turismo SPORT”!

The graphics, sound and physics engine will be the most realistic ever experienced in a driving simulator thanks to the new platform and the new technologies, but that alone would be a too obvious improvement: the way driving games are played will also undergo a huge revolution with “Gran Turismo Sport”.

This is a vision that invokes the rebirth of motorsports."

The FIA Gran Turismo Championships:

"In “Gran Turismo SPORT”, there will be two online championships running simultaneously: In the Nations Cup, players represent their home country and in the Manufacturers Cup, players represent their favourite car manufacturer."

"Players will not only be able to race as drivers themselves, they’ll also be able to root for their home country or their favorite manufacturers teams as a spectator."

"The winner of the championship will be awarded in the same manner as real life motorsports champions, at the FIA prize giving ceremony."

"But it’s not just about online racing; the GT teams have continued to build on the games legacy of accessibility to ensure that the game is open to all to enjoy."

Announcement of Beta Testing:

"With the beta expected to begin in Spring 2016, it won’t be long before players can experience all GT has to offer on the power of PS4."

@utio

Tough call really.  :smileytongue:

We have a few road cars in the trailer.

And not all VGTs are 'race' cars.

There's no denying a heavy focus on the FIA online events though, for the moment at least.

But there's plenty to suggest it goes beyond simply online racing.

The question is how far.

I'm undecided where this fits into the franchise.

Have PD dropped the numerical order and this replaces '7', or is GT7 also in the wings?

Or should naming it 'SPORT' be telling us something?

I could argue either point at this stage.

Still, it's early days.

Bring on trailer #2.  :smileyvery-happy:

@AXtj

No, they haven't introduced any FIA events yet.

GT6 has 4 FIA sanctioned tracks.

And the last I heard, a small 'prelude' FIA event was still slated to be held in GT6.

But no events have been held so far.

Yes, I'd like to see more. I wonder if they decided to change things up a bit, and this is the result. Time will tell, no doubt.

The Partnership with the FIA is brilliant. Why haven't they done it sooner? (or have they?)

I like the direction they are taking with the Sport and it feels like a great move before, A full release of GT7

It would be great for me to test out the beta version when it becomes available. I haven't been a beta tester since joining PSN.

I've been having a dig around to see what extra news may have turned up following the PGW announcement.

I found two things of interest.

First, for those that may not have seen it, here's the full clip of the time on stage during the PGW media conference with Kaz introducing GT SPORT.

And secondly, Eurogamer have conducted an interview with Jim Ryan, SCEE's president and CEO and the same man introducing Kaz in the above clip.

In the interview he is quoted as saying "We're not announcing Gran Turismo 7 at this stage,"

The clear implications of that statement are obvious.

He went on to try and downplay any fears of GT SPORT being a 'simple' Prologue.

"Fair to say [series director Kazunori Yamauchi] has been making these games for some considerable time now. I think it's reasonable to assume that something else might come down the road. Is it a Prologue? No, I think it'll be more than that."

Also in the Eurogamer article, there is a reference to the Modes that will appear in GT SPORT.

It is reported that GTPlanet have revealed "that Gran Turismo Sport will have three separate modes, with 'Campaign', 'Sports Mode' and 'Arcade Mode' all featuring."

The full Eurogamer article can be read in the link below.

Looking great! Nice new cars, like the new Mazda MX-5, would be fun to have it in GT6 as well.

I was lucky enough to be at the PlayStation Paris Media Preview event (Sony Conference). The goosebumps when the PD logo showed on the screen :D The games as always, looks great. A benchmark for the racing genre. And as has been said already, this isn't GT7. That will be along at a later date. I'd take a guess at 2017 for GT7.

It was also great to see Kazunori Yamauchi backstage. Although I never got to speak to him. Might have met him at the after party. But I had to get to my hotel to check in. Ah well. Can't wait for GT Sport :)

Awesome.

Bet you had a great time.

What?

You couldn't get us a date for GT7?   :smileyvery-happy:

Shame you couldn't catch up with Kaz.  :smileysad:

Oh well.

SEMA in L.A. next week.

Give it another go there.  :smileytongue:

A quick post to highlight an official reply to a post on the Gran Turismo Facebook account.

'Alexandre Tonini' asked ...

"So, is that the 7th main game of the series, or is it a dedicated version for FIA championship ?"

'Gran Turismo' responded ...

"Hi Alexandre, while GT Sport is not the 7th episode of the main series, it's more in depth than a Prologue. It is designed to focus on motor sport, as the name suggests, and online racing will be an important element. :smileyhappy:"

Online Racing only or otherwise? I wish they don't go for the former, because I hate the Always-On DRM a lot. Tell PD to hold onto sense and not produce an Online-Only game.

NFS 2015 has already been released in the US, and it already received Negative views from individual scorers on Metacritic. Negative views targeting the Always-On DRM.

@brady2827

Personally I doubt this will be the case.

SCEA have confirmed the 3 modes ... 'Campaign', 'Arcade' and 'Sports'.

It seems fair to me to suggest the 'Sports' mode would concentrate on the online race events.

'Campaign' may have some element of online gaming I guess.

But it's unlikely 'Arcade' would.

At least, that's what history would show us.

But I agree that "Always-On DRM" would be a disappointing road to go down.

The one thing people don't want to see is every other future video game be made Online Only. The Always-On DRM is the most hated restriction, because it strips our freedom with video games from us. I know it's the modern era, but that does NOT mean we all have to go online all the time, everytime.

About what I said about NFS 2015 and the Negativity received by individual scorers, I think NFS 2015 will be the "Worst Game Ever in Videogame History", beating Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing and Desert Bus.

You bought the game disc, but... Still need Online ability (even if 50% of all ppl have an Internet connection). I guess Polyphony Digital won't do this and never will be ;)

For those interested in keeping up with the latest news, PSX 2015 is the next event to keep an eye on.

As it stands neither Gran Turismo nor Polyphony Digital are officially listed, but the odds of seeing something new regarding GTSPORTS seems quite high to me.

The PSX 2015 event is being held December 5th-6th in the USA.

Just a quick post to highlight another official reply on the Gran Turismo facebook page.

The response is a few weeks old now (so perhaps some of you have already read it).

'Angelo Gabriel ' posts ... "Gran turismo, on line races will be obrigatory ?
We'll have a gran turismo mode (or carrer mode) with some championship ? Thanks !

The community Gt of brazil is very excited with the Sports !!"

'Gran Turismo ' responds ... "Angelo Gabriel. Online is not mandatory, there will be also offline events."

We're just 24 hours away from the keynote address of PlayStation Experience 2015, where possibly/hopefully we will get another look and hear some more details about GT SPORT.

For those keen on watching (and crossing fingers) for some GT news, or of course simply wanting to watch the event during this weekend, live.playstation.com , or Twitch , or YouTube are 3 good options.

The keynote address will start at ...

UK/Europe : 6:00pm (GMT) / 7:00pm (CET) Sat. 5th

Aus (West) : 2:00am Sun. 6th

Aus (East) : 5:00am (AEDST) Sun. 6th

NZ : 7:00am Sun. 6th

Regarding GT.

I'll be watching the keynote address, which I expect to last 2 hours.

I'll also watch the 'PlayStation VR' presentation, which begins 4 hours after the start (eg. 10:00pm GMT) and will last approx. 1 hour.

With no confirmation of anything GT related being shown at all, I'm putting my money on those 2 time slots giving me the best odds.   :smileyvery-happy:

*The stream will continue after the keynote address on day 1 with live game demos and developer interviews etc.

And will continue again on day 2.

Stream times :

Day 1.  6:00pm (GMT) Sat 5th to 5:00am (GMT) Sun 6th  (11 hours)

Day 2.  6:00pm (GMT) Sun 6th to 12:00am (GMT) Mon. 7th  (6 hours)
