Grass Physics... ARRRRRGH!

I have to post this out of frustration...

I was hoping that the grass and 1/10 throttle crap would be fixed in GT5.

I just tried Academy. It's rubbish.

I'm using a controller these days and I often inevidibly put 1 wheel on the grass because the game is so unforgiving with the controller.

I don't know any REAL car that will instantly spin when this happens.

I don't know any car that slides incomprehensibly on grass at 5km/h or less.

I also don't know any car that limits throttle to 1/10th of the capability when on grass. If i want to spin my wheels... LET ME!

Especially when I'm in full drift, the tiniest touch off line sends you sliding uncontrollably accross Oily ICE into anything at an exact tangent to your last trajectory.

Give the grass A LITTLE more GRIP!

This ***** makes me soooo angry I just turn it off.

I WISH WISH WISH WISH this is fixed in the production version.

Other than that its great.

Graphics wise. The shadows on cars still suck arse. They make the game look cheap and blocky when in fact it isnt.

Come on guys. Sim everything. not just the track.

Re: Grass Physics... ARRRRRGH!

This 'demo' was made just for the the GT Academy and nothing else. About the only thing you can take away from the demo is the car/track physics. The grass is made that way to prevent people abusing it and running off the course and gaining an advantage. The grass will likely be a bit more tame when it comes to GT5. The graphics are worse than GT5P just to keep the download size to a minimum, the GT5 graphics are much much better than what is shown in the 'demo'.

The grass made it enough that I won't buy this title, it's rubbish lol. Not my sort of game at all.

Re: Grass Physics... ARRRRRGH!

Heres a thought... Stay off the grass...

Rally cars might deviate off the track, but typically Touring Cars and Production Cars stay on it.... :smileywink:

Re: Grass Physics... ARRRRRGH!

Hint, racing tires (slicks), momentum and wheel spin. Just because it says 5km on your speedometer, it only means your wheels are spinning at the force that will make you travel at 5km/h. In reality, you could be going at 8x that speed. As for a wheel on the grass, there's an instant loss of grip, and until it returns to the previous grip level or the entire car is gripped to the grass, it's going to spin when it's on two surfaces. More so if it'sthe rear wheel on the grass.

You've also got to remember that the average speed around the track is around 150km/h, much faster than any road legel speed limit in the country.

Re: Grass Physics... ARRRRRGH!

If you went out and drove your regular car with all the driving aids off at around 150km/h and put a wheel on some grass turning i suspect you'd have a very similar experience.

Re: Grass Physics... ARRRRRGH!

try driving with such a low car with slicks on grass at 20km without spinning, and yes you can loose it pretty easilly my touching grass. Look at Formula 1, even with incredible downforce they can still spin out by touching the grass with thier back tyre

Re: Grass Physics... ARRRRRGH!

As frustrating the grass is I've grown up with the knowledge that when your in a racing game you never go off the road. My first racing game was need for speed high stakes and the grass physics have hardly changed. The only thing that has changed is the graphics and boy are the graphics amazing on GT5! So the only way your going to fix the grass physics is to learn to like them.

grass is great in flower, i like looking at the grass in flower.... but I can actually drive, so I rarely get to see the grass in GT :smileytongue:... I'm sure it'll be ok though
