Welcome to the forum Jerry, and to the wonderful world of Gran Turismo

There's so much to get into now, whereas for some of us, we've gone through all the peasure and pain gradually.

GT5 still is not that 100% product, but most of us ignore that fact and love the game, despite its foibles.

You will no doubt have been met by requirements to download a few patches first, depending on the game disc you bought, so, get them out of the way first.

Then decide on your many settings, camera views, music options etc.

You've got A-Spec events, which is your against AI, B-Spec events, which is your AI against other AI, Special Events (loads of good stuff in there) and the Licenses. That's all offline stuff. On top of that, you have the Seasonal events, which can be good for "grinding" Credits and XP. And the other online stuff, in community, is where you can race against other humans, which is where a lot of us spend our time nowadays.

You can, if you wish, just get stuck right in to the A-Spec events, but, if you haven't played Gran Turismo before, I would suggest that you start doing the Licenses. You do not need them to enter events, but they are great for teaching you the rudiments of driving line and general principles, "slow in, fast out," all that kind of stuff. And the AMG Special Event is great for teaching you how to negotiate the Nurburgring.

There's loads more to say, but I need to get my breakfast. Hopefully, others will chip in here with further tips and advice.

Enjoy the game...

Re: Hey Guys, Finally got gt5

Hi Jerry,

and welcome to the Forum. Yes, if you haven't played GT# before, the licenses offer a pretty good learning phase and you might win a few cars along the way. As you may have already discovered - cash is tight in the beginning and so is the range of cars you are able to buy. My tip is to delve into B-Spec and make yourself a new driver (Bob) - one with a neutral disposition and a fairly uniform spread of abilities - then pit both him and yourself against the online Seasonal Events. A level 1 'Bob' can easily win the 400PP class events, even if you can't, and the resulting level increase opens up a wider range of cars to buy. Seasonal Events return far more cash and exp than either career mode so once you have some half decent cars you can then enjoy all which the game has to offer - and it's a lot for your money!  :smileytongue:

Welcome to the GT forum, Jerry!

Don't forget to join in on the forum's racing events, too. That way you get to meet some of the members and get some good racing in while you are at it.

Re: Hey Guys, Finally got gt5

Welcome to the forums mate, I can give only few tips for a start.

- If you enter into Online gaming, beware of the fact the X1 drivers will ruin your racing for good, avoid these at all cost until you'll get your own X1 car.

- Do not hesitate to ask people to add you as a friend at this forum, if you ever need a specific car to be loaned or Bob's trained

- Do special events & driving licenses = cars, XP and money as a prize

- Make sure you are using Sound output that meets your own hardware

I hope you enjoy, I have enjoyed the game since launch and never get tired of it.

Re: Hey Guys, Finally got gt5

It is a real treat to hear that you are happy with Gran Turismo. It can be quite annoying at times when some of us go into gripe mode here and moan about the short falls of the game.

It sounds like you are making good progress. Only when you are ready, I can heartily recommend getting involved in the SFS event that is advertised here each week. It is an all day affair of relaxed, no pressure racing with people of all abilities dropping in through the day (Sunday). The people who run the event are a great bunch and very helpful with advice on driving lines, car setups and stuff.

Yo Jezza Only advice I can give is, if you can afford and have the space for one & if your girlfriend/wife will permit it GET A WHEEL. I ain't gonna recommend any one in particular because any wheel is better than any controller, period. And despite what anyone says the key to racing success is enjoy it...ain't gonna win no race with an angry face...trust me. Welcome to the forum. With twisted arm I can reveal I like many others i use a Logitech G27, but like I said before i ain't recommending any particular wheel.
