Hi I'm new! And Wheel help please!

[ Edited ]

First of all, Hello! I'm new to this forum, but I'm on various other forums :smileyvery-happy:

The reason I've joined is to ask about; What wheel should I get?

I've been playing GT for a long time but I've never got around to getting a wheel!

My strict budget is about £80.

I've found a couple of decent ones - Logitech DFGT and the Thrustmaster F430.

However, with each there's a couple of problems:

DFGT - A little over my budget! I'd appreciate if anyone could find me a one that's in my budget!

F430 - I'm not sure whether it's compatible with GT5

If anyone could also recommend me with other wheels i'd also appreciate that.

Many Thanks,

Harv

Hi Mate.Ive not used the thrustmaster but do have a DFGT and can say that it was money well spent and i find it to be a very good wheel indeed.I mainly use mine with F1 series, GT5. Dirt3, and works very well with these games.

Re: Hi I'm new! And Wheel help please!

Welcome to the GT forum, Harvey!

If you are not really in a big hurry, then it is to your advantage to save up more money, to get a better wheel.

I don't know the 430 at all, but if has better features, such as non-plastic pedals like the Logitech has, then maybe that is the one to get. If it doesn't...

The problem is that there aren't many good wheels at the bottom end of your price range any more, so you might want to wait for a deal on a better, newer wheel set.

Hi, many thanks for the reply.
By newer set do you mean that some have been announced in my price range?

No, MasterGT means that it would be better if you increased your budget, by saving up, and getting a better steering wheel, thereby avoiding disappointment, and wasting money in the process. At least that's how I read it.

It is quite well documented around this forum, and quite recently too, so you shouldn't have to look too hard.

Don't get me wrong. The cheaper wheels available may, in some ways, better for you. For instance, if you are the type of gamer that likes to platinum your latest game as soon as possible, and not even enjoy its finer points, then I would say that it would be better if you stuck with your DS3 controller.

If, however, you are with Gran Turismo for the long haul, then I would recommend that you wait until you hav saved up enough birthday and Christmas money. It would be worth the wait.

regards

Re: Hi I'm new! And Wheel help please!

If it were me, and on a budget. I'd defo got for the Logitech Driving Force GT. I managed to pick up 1 myself from Amazon for £79.99. But they seem to have put their prices up since GT5 came out.

But having a quick look around the interwebz. If you can squeeze another £10 for your budget. You can get 1 from Argos for £89.99. If you have an Argos Card, then even better. As you can do 'Buy Now, Pay 6 Months Later'. (I'm sounding like sales person here :smileytongue: )

No good, new wheels in your price range have been announced recently, so you have to consider what is available.

The DF:GT wheel is based on a wheel that was released before GT4 came out and it has plastic pedals. The G27 is much more recent and the overall package is much better quality. I have used the GT wheel and wasn't all that impressed, especially with the feel of the pedals. You can buy replacement pedals for the DF:GT, but at a hefty cost.

If you plan on sticking with GT in the long haul, you will appreciate having a better wheel. There is no perfect wheel yet (although the top end is certainly getting better), so you have to find the best compromise for yourself.

Re: Hi I'm new! And Wheel help please!

The DFGT is a very good wheel for the money I just getting used to it myself as I have only just been able to have the room to set it up permanently. With either wheel by looking at reviews they both have there strengths and weaknesses.

and on that note, Welcome to the forums!

My local Game have a DFGT for £89.99, online shows as £10 more so worth a look if you collect the game points.

Re: Hi I'm new! And Wheel help please!

I don't have the cash for a G27 wheel so bought the DFGT wheel and it massively improved my driving on the F1 2010 game. It also works v well for GT5 and to be honest I can't justify paying G27 money for a wheel that I don't use all the time. :smileyhappy:
