The ghost just seemed to leap out of the corners better than me and also managed to get through the turns much faster, particularl the s bends onto the long straight and I don't think I ever got the last hairpin right.

The ghosts of the top runners are all using Active Steering Management. :smileywink:

However, the trick with the "s" bends as you call them is getting the entry to the 2nd corner just right. You should be on full throttle just as you hit the apex of corner 2, which naturally causes you to move out to the left edge of the track. Then move over to the right side and come in wide to the left hander corner 3 making sure you stay left. This is important because it gives you a full throttle straight line through the "s" bends hitting each apex. If you hit the apex on the exit of the bends you can hold full pace right out of the turn and on to the straight, missing the cones.

The last hairpin has to methods of approach. The first is the most obvious. Slow right down to max 25mph, hit the apex early and get round tight to give you an early jump pn the straight.

The second, which I used, is to brake late and turn late (in comparison with the driving line if you use it). This approach allows you to miss the first of the double turn ins on this hairpin in favour of a later but faster single turn in. I managed to keep 40mph using this method.

Overall, this track is about throttle management. You can not full throttle it around this track, most turns are half or three quarters at most. Most importantly, get your braking done early, so that you are throttleing through the turns as this gives this particular car much more front end grip.

Don't give up, as said above, while this track is challenging, corners will suddenly click one at a time and then it's only a matter of stringing it all together.

Yeah, that Tidgney youtube vid is an excellent guide. At 45 minutes long, he covers pretty much every corner on the track and remarking on which corners/sections are make or break. Only problem for me now is track time. I've got a scheduled on-line race tomorrow night, and I need to practice for that first.

Some excellent advice from Danlise too. Thanks :smileyhappy:

So,  perhaps it isn't time to quit just yet

Good luck Andy and I hope you crack it.

Cheers Phoenix :smileyhappy:

I've had so much encouragement, from here and my main forum, that it would be rude of me not to have another go.

Re: Is 8-5 officially hard?

I embarrassed to say that, after my morning thirty minute stint in round 8-5 I just posted a time of 1:36.453

I really don't know where that come from to be honest, but I reckon that Tidgney's video guide certainly helped in places.

I'm going to give it a rest now, and perhaps try again later.

Re: Is 8-5 officially hard?

I don't think I'm going to beat my best time of 1.32.197, I've been trying for 3 days but cant seem to nail turns 4/5 consistently.

A couple of times I have gained  2/3 car lengths on my ghost and then nerves/excitement and a shaking leg got the better of me and I lost it all over the remainder of the lap:smileyfrustrated:

It is hard but with practice you will eventually get the feel of the car and flow of the track and your times will improve.

tidgney's tutorial is excellent, but if like me you haven't got tidgney's skill you wont be in the 1.31.1s.
